POST issue

Last week the Tagan PSU blew on my rig. Today I received a Corsiar HX850W from OCuK and I have spent the last few hours fitting it.

The issue is now that all the fans, cpu and motherboard begin to boot but the graphics card does not boot, the fan does not move. Its in the 1st PCI-E slot same is it always has been before the psu blew. I have used both the hard wired PCi-E cables on the PSU and modular ones and nothing. I happen to have another GTX 260 so tried that and same thing, even tried in slot 2 in sli mode but neither fans spin. It seems no power is getting to the cards.

Is the motherboard faulty now due to the PSU blowing?

could be the motherboard, but both slots seems a bit wierd. have you tested the pci-e plugs are outputting a voltage?

i dont have a test meter at home, is there any other safe way to test them?

i wouldn't reccommed testing with anything other than a multi meter you could use a 12 volt bulb to test it but will be a very basic test

or a cheap fan.

well the PSU fires up the cpu, case fans, hard disks and DVD. It just seems to be the PCI-E power thats not working. The Corsair comes with 2 hard wired PCI-E cables and 4 modular. Ive tried both types buy nothing.

Afraid not, the last psu blew up so only have the Corsair. Would the fan on the GPU spin if its just connected to the power or would it need to be in the slot?

no i mean if its connected to the psu but not in the pci-e mobo slot.

not sure on your gfx card, but i know my 9800GTX+ if i forget to plug 1 or both of the powers into it, a red light comes on, and a green one if its all good, worth a look maybe?

I must be missing something here!!!

I have used all 6 PCI-E sockets on the psu, interchanged the cables etc and nothing. I will get a multimeter from work tomorrow and see what the Corsair is outputting.

sounds like a dodgey psu, i would imagine the fans would spin even if the mobo was dead, but unsure.
like i said, are there supposed to be any lights on the card to indicate if there is the correct power?

There is no LED that I can see anywhere on either of the gtx260 cards.

oh right, not any use then. umm you know both cards are working, were they plugged in when the last psu died and could have been fried too?

Well I only had one originally and just got the 2nd one yesterday from a mate. I saw it working and was there when he pulled it out the test rig. So when the pdu blew I just had the BFG one installed.

hmm..........so that rules out that theory.
i think until you can get a multimeter on it its going to be hard to tell if its psu or mobo.

either that or see if a mate has a low end gfx card that doens need power.
