Brought home a toastie/sandwich maker while I was in India and was all set to use it now and realised that I don't have an adapter. It's a 3 pin India plug. (so like a europe plug but with 3 pins.) I have a whole bunch of adapters at home but none for the 3 pin India one. I've got UK to US, US to Europe, Europe to UK, but those are all two pins.

What I wanted to know was, if I put in the 3 pin india plug into a 2 pin europe thing (so the earth pin is just sticking out and not going into anything) and then plugged that into a europe to UK adaptor which goes into the wall, would I shock myself or blow something up?

Voltages are all the same. I would've thought that since it's just the earth pin, it should be ok but don't really have any experience in this or any idea about it really so thought i'd see if anyone here knows.

Could go out and buy an adaptor, but it's cold :p. I probably will do so when I go out next but thought i'd see if there's a workaround I can use now.

If it's metal then you want it to be grounded. Otherwise you end up being the earth lead ;).

Its not going to kill you unless it went wrong obviously, however especially with cooking equipment I would say either grab an adapter or wire an english plug onto it as above ^

[try this at your own risk mode] Surely if its 240v and the cable has an earth/neutral/live cable in it, cant you just put a UK plug on it ? [/try this at your own risk mode]

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

I don't want to cut off the plug and wire a UK one into it because I just wanted this method for a temporary work around. Not to mention the fact i've never done it before.

I was planning to go and buy an adaptor on monday. Just wanted to see if I could use the thing now. Bought some ham and cheese and mustard yesterday to make some sandwiches and forgot about the adaptor :p Guess i'l just use a pan ^_^ Don't particularly want a toasted kitchen, even if it is cold outside. And have work to do so being the earth myself for the thing isn't the best idea ;)

It is a slightly weird thing to bring back, but had one lying around at home in India which wasn't being used by the family so thought i'd put it to some use :p

Is it wrong that I laughed at that point?

No, just no

Go to your nearest supermarket (tesco, Asda or Sainsburys) and buy a low cost & SAFE uk version.

I'd not bother trying to rig it up to our national grid.

:D

I found it amusing;). My question is what's so special about this toaster you had to buy and bring it back from India?

EDIT: Either is amazing or its very cheap. If its the latter I'd throw it away.

Someone mentioned this in another forum.

BLue = Bottom Left
BRown = Bottom Rright

One thing I learned over the years, common sense isn't common.
