How unsafe is this? (electircal related)

I found it amusing;). My question is what's so special about this toaster you had to buy and bring it back from India?

EDIT: Either is amazing or its very cheap. If its the latter I'd throw it away.

Neither :p Was a gift to the parents from someone or the other but they already had one so it was just lying in the cupboard unused. Thought i'd bring it back with me and use it here. I'm a student. Can't cook much more than sandwiches :p hehe.

They don't teach this in schools anymore?

Oddly ALL Uk products that are now sold are meant to come with a molded plug, so no one has the wire the product.
The safety thinking behing such a regulation was to stop british school children from killing themselves trying the easiest and simplist form of DIY.

Amazing.

Scary stuff, kids today haven't seen life with mobile phones and don't understand how a camera works if it doesn't have a screen on the back ;)

Wouldn't the sensible option be to go and buy a cheap UK standard toastie maker rather than splashing out on adapters in an attempt to get some Indian death trap working?

why both with moulded plugs when any kid with a half decent pair of scissors could cut the lead before the plug anyway and have shock therapy that way!

As to you problem op, just change the plug, its a complete piece of **** and something a very young child should be able to do , google it , one diagram job done :D

Look - almost everyone knows how to put a plug on...

Potentially, there are different safety standards to meet for the local market, so it might be worse.

I think the difference would be negligible - toasty manufacturers around the world have a common interest in keeping their customers alive.

Besides, the UK is a bit OTT with its standards - almost every device is fused, with moulded plugs, double insulated, earthed, plugged into a fused circuit, with a master breaker on top.

I know all these things showed up for one reason or another (usually a foolish accident) but really, if you are sensible with its use, there wouldn't be any trouble if you took away half of these safety features. It would just be like using a 1930's desk lamp or something.

When I first started training as a electrician the amount of lads on the course who didn't actually know how to wire a plug was truly shocking lol.
