Aussie to UK - looking for some advice?

I wouldn't suggest putting too much stock in all the negatives (or even positives come to that) you are being advised about, it's something that you're better off deciding for yourself. However there does seem to be a tendency on this forum (maybe it's a wider UK thing as well but I don't notice it when talking to my mates) to slate the UK and believe that the World is better almost anywhere apart from here.

I live in Adelaide which, in comparison to other places, is nice and quiet but I've been here my whole life
I've been to most other cities in Australia, and the thought of relocating there doesn't really have much appeal as it would be sort of the same as Adelaide just a bit bigger and a bit noisier or a bit more humid
its still Australia (to me) after all
I love it, just a change is nice sometimes too

Its true Australia full of racist ****s:mad:

Personally i dont judge by skin colour but by what they do and how they act as a person. But there are plenty that do tar every one that isnt white with the the same brush and pretty much just want them to "Go back to there own country":rolleyes:

I will occasionally bring out a racist joke or play on a stereotype but never in hatred or spite of them.

Some storys ive heard Truck drivers and Aboriginals in the top end is pretty sickning though TBH, Some guys at work know people from previous that have swerved to hit them =/:(:mad:


Its also not just whites that are racist, You do actually get a fair few Asian Racists aswell, According to a friend in Melbourne it has been them that have been attacking and killing an few of the Indian Students =/

But along with there being plenty of racists to go round, there are still plenty of good people around.

But with saying all that there are quite a few Aboriginals and Other races that dont do the rest of there race any good and act the way they are portrayed. (IE, Children Beating, Petrol Sniffing Abusive, welfare abusing ****s)
Which really just gives them all a bad name and just feeds the racists.

Just stay away from people wearing the Australian Flag as a cape at Events and Shows, They are normally knob heads:p

I got a shock at the abos when i was over, most of them seem to be street bums that just can't get their head around the idea of modern society. They could be quite aggressive as well.

when we think about the space we have, and our current house and the fact we have ok jobs etc etc, we probably would be worse off financially if we came to live in the UK, but that wasn't the only reason for thinking about the move

its a shame because we both liked the idea of different lifestyles and different jobs and being able to see loads of Europe on the weekend

I'm going to look up some of the areas you guys mentioned though and do a bit more research, see how I go

G-Day m8, Personally i think you should come for a year or two. Rent somewhere and have a 2yr blast. Go travelling across Europe at every opportunity and visit some of the fantastic places England has to offer.

To move out to the UK with 130,000GBP is not going to get you very far in terms of housing. Actually that is the most destroying part of England.. The house prices. To get something in the South East to raise a family in, will now run you up around 400k and that is it being pokey and small.. That's just insane. The amount of debt people are putting themselves in just to get a roof under their head. I hope the goverment tries something to fix this. I was hoping a recession would bring a house price crash but it hasn't. It's of no benefit to anyone, other than those escaping the country. Just more tax for the goverment and comission for the estate agents.

Also you have in my opinion been in the best part of the UK already. Kingston upon Thames & SE England is the best part of England, having travelled 80% of the country with my old job. There are other nice parts don't get me wrong, but as an overal package, you've already been (cost of living not taken into consideration)... That area is where if I was to ever move back to England, is where I'd go.. I lived in England for over 30yrs and moved to SW Florida over 5 yrs ago, in which i suspect is similar to Aussie in many ways. Plenty of space, in-expensive housing. Though I miss the hustle and bustle of SE England, i am living a MUCH higher standard of living thanks to the much lower housing prices out here. If house prices halved and some and the streets were cleaned of the new chav wave and they sort out immigration then maybe i would consider going back. As it stands NO WAY !

Well, when I go out there Ive got a team of 120 blue collar construction workers reporting to me so I'll see how they like being bossed round by a brown skinned person.
An aussie who owns a bar where I live now refers to aborigines as *******. I got in a minor argument with him over it.

Quite a few do though, it's not exactly difficult if you live in London or have decent links there. We've been on quite a few trips to Belgium and France on the Eurostar and it's not like catching a bus no, it's more like catching a train. :D

My missus and her parents went to Lille not so long ago on a day trip it's so quick - just over an hour from London and you're there.

Like i said not every ones racist, And if you're the boss it might not be too bad:)

Im suprised he used the N word, Normally they are called something else(Im not sure if i can say it on here though, its not a swear word though)

Although your post has some truth in it , calling "them" Abbo's is part of the mentality and problem over here. Indigenous or Aboriginals is a nicer way to address this race of people.

However I'm not having a go, my mother recently came over here and called them "aborignalthings" just a lack of education of the situation. And i'm glad i'm not the one who has to solve this problem over here because there are no easy answers...

Some of the things that happen on Katherine/Alice is purely disgusting just once example in Alice Springs Puns open at 11am - 3pm Aboriginals time only serving mid strength beer . 3pm till 3.30pm cleaning up time reopens at 3pm for "white people" serving full strength beer :rolleyes:

People wonder why there is a white/black hate in Alice .......

BUT the missus, thanks to you guys (mainly), is really having second thoughts due to the cost of living and housing
we are redoing the sums at the moment and will see what we come up with

For living and working, UK is probably one of the better countries, even taking into the account how crap it is here. In the industry I work in, its either US (can't stand American accents) or Asia (Working from 8am to 11pm is "normal"and expected). So quiet buggered in that sense. And honestly if we just wipe out all the chavs over night, this would be number 1 country in the world and we would cure aids in 4 days. So I prefer to live and work here, and just go abroad for holidays when the weather is crap here.

Would say Bristol is decent, in the sense that its not bad. Perhaps there are better places, but I only lived here, a village that thinks its a town and Colchester before. Bristol is better then all of them. For your money you should be able to get a decent flat or probably a crap house.

There are some pubs that have an Aboriginal side and a white peoples side.

Normally the Aboriginal side is just bear walls a couple stalls and concrete flooring.
With the half strength beer, it could be the new laws to stop violence and rape in the Aboriginal community. A lot of them just spend all there welfare money on beer and petrol =/
 
As all the other posts , loads of nice places in Uk but like many folks you may have to follow the jobs. Regional info on job vacancies by sector is given by Govt on their ONS website or from the quarterly Manpower stats. Looking at the most recent ones you may find work easier to get and salary/ house prices more reasonable in e.g South Wales, West Midlands or Yorkshire
