I've read lots of negativity on this game. I'd really be interested to hear from people that enjoyed it. Anyone?

I was wondering where the thread was on this game, but it's one I'm just not sure about, the gameplay videos do look pretty good and there seems to be a nice arsenal of weapons and such but as someone has mentioned above I think I'll wait for a few people to drop a review on here and else where first before I buy it.

I played the closed, and thought it was total crud...

Then I downloaded the open beta on a whim and dedicated some time to it and came to love it. It's certainly not a game that grabs you straight away, it's unforgiving and there's a bit of a mountain initially to understanding what the hell is going on. In addition the controls are slightly different to normal shooters which takes a bit of time to get used to. Despite this I absolutely love it, the rush of taking a point with 30 other players is awesome, and when teamwork takes place it's like nothing else. It's also basically infantry only, the only vehicles are mobile APC's which act as spawn points effectively.

to me it just reeks of bf2 rip off im sorry but i watched a few gameplay trailers and it was bf2 rip off city in all of them, and the gun holding animation would bother me it reminds me cs1.6

I think one of the reasons I hated the closed was that I was playing the closed of BC2 at the same time and it just didn’t compare. However, once I put some time into the open beta of MAG and unlocked domination (the 256 player mode is locked initially, unlocked at level 10) and started to follow the flow of the game and the maps it really grabbed me. It’s much more unforgiving than battlefield, there’s little opportunity to make a big difference as one player.

Battlefield felt much more immediate, and a lot of the things it does better than MAG (particularly medics/engineers) but it certainly has that “something” that makes me want to keep playing it. The FRAGO system (whereby leaders can indicate the target points to capture which players will get bonus xp for) worked really well, and in my opinion (when used intelligently), enabled easy changes in overall tactics to push different areas of the map etc. The lack of airbourne/ground vehicles also gives it a different focus as well.

Personally I think they work well side by side, and I’ll certainly be purchased both MAG and BC2 – As well as continuing to play BF2/1943

Played this and now have it on order. It's not as immediate as some of the other fps' out there and isn't as shiny looking! but all in all found it a good squad based game.
I would say that if you are not sure on this one- wait til it drops in price! it's seems to have a lot of divided opinions.

Never got a chance to play the beta so hopefully someone I know might be able to lend it to me before buying it. Not sure if I'll play this with MW2 and BC2 around!

One I was really hyped about at first, but now not so sure. Will keep an eye out on reviews, and this thread for peoples thoughts.

What's the selling points on MAG? From the videos I've seen it's not the graphics or combat.

What's up with the nade throwing?

Didn't really enjoy any aspect of the beta. Particuarly the regular 2GB updates. :o

256 players may sound awesome, but you never feel like there are that many because the maps are huge and you are divided up into squads. Each squad has their own objective which the opposing squad has to obviously prevent your from achieving. You'll maybe see one or two people from another squad in the game if you're playing it properly. Without everyone on your squad working as a team and focusing on the objective, you're destined to fail.

Im picking this up friday for sure, brought a ps3 solely for it :D

The reviews i read so far have all been positive. The game launched today in the states and theres been a retail patch straight away.

Fixes were weapon and armour balancing, tweaked graphics and a more stable framerate in heavy firefights. In the US forums so far theres no slow down or anything, not bad considering its the first game of that scale yet on a console.

Its not the most polished game, maybe not the best designed but what it does and supposed to do it does well.

Ive got this at home, had it for the last week but cant play yet. Got it free at a eurogamer Mag event, real shame there is no single player as i cant even play against bots till its actual release.
