What really annoys me when trying to save power.

I know a lot of you think that saving power is all a load of b.s. and you can't be assed etc etc because it's not worth your while etc etc. Whatever. Well I'm not one of them and I do tend to try and save what power I can and my bills are quite low as a result.

However, at a time when we are all being encouraged by the government to save power so we can lower our impact on the environment it really ticks me off when I walk past a derelict shop and inside all the lights are still on

What's the point in us saving anything if the jerk landlord leaves 6 strip lights on in an empty shop? There's one out on my high street, ex estate agent, that has maybe 20 low voltage dichroics on behind the whitewash in the window from their old window display and it's been like that for maybe 2 years now. Then there's one I pass near where I work and there are 6 strip lights left on. I make that 330 Watts down the drain 24/7. What a complete waste

Anyway, rant over, just wanted to get that off my chest.

TBH even places that aren't derelict but just shut overnight lit up like a council estate christmas tree all night, really no need for it and it must waste so much energy.

One way I saw of saving power I like is in Walmart you walk down the freezer isle and all the lights come on and go off again as you go past.

Contact your local councillor/MP about the specific building. They might well do something about it in the run up to the elections.

My power comes from a reactor so I couldn't careless. My power usage doesn't impact on man's apparent exhasbiration of climatic variations.

At least spell it right when trying to be a smart arse . . . . :p
Its exacerbation.

Anyway, when Woolies went bust they left the lights on in the shop in Shields. Was like that for months. Even had articles in the Gazette. Schools and council buildings are the worst. External lights left on all night long.
Its wrong. Same as streetlights. Turn them off ffs.

It ruins the night sky!

I know how you feel. I try to be a bit considerate when it comes to energy but my two flatmates just seems to leave pretty much everything on.

One just goes out and leaves his light on, his computer on (with no sleep mode or screensaver) and leaves his laptop on too!

Think of all them lightbulbs at christmas, and those electric advertising boards in america... and we are going to save the world by putting our sky boxs onto standby!

The worst are Churches!

They have hugeeee spotlights lighting them up. Who on Earth wants to look at a church at night?

Drives me up the wall on my way home from work through a trading estate..
Open plan office buildings with every single light in the ceiling on and not a soul in sight.
Maybe the cleaners are in there but on every floor everything is glowing like a Christmas tree.

They do it for security purposes, which is why a lot of shops and offices leave some lights on too.

Saving energy is just prolonging the inevitable to be honest, use of much of it as you can to get rid of all the oil and force people to do something about it.
