Sig sizes ?

You can turn off sigs and avatars in the CP so it shouldn't be an issue for anyone, people with slow connections can just disable them.

Animation isn't allowed in a signature. And I for one regularly browse the forums on my phone when I'm out and about, with my job that's fairly often! I'd rather not have to download massive sigs, but I still use them to identify posters as I flick through, so I don't want to disable them either!

Dial up is sadly not gone, though it is a minority, however mobile broadband (which is generally very limited) is on the up so the sig size rules have just as much relavance now as they ever did.

Although these are UK centric fora, dialup accounts for over 80% of the world's home users.

There we go, I think this pretty much answers that. I totally agree with the sig height and width rules but I don't like low res images :(

How do we ask the forum owners to consider upping the limit now the internets is faster? :p

But the point is that you CAN make your sig smaller without losing much quality. It's not hard to get a 400x75 image under 20kb without it looking poor.

The size limit is fine. If you are incappable of making a sig within that filesize limit thats your problem, not theirs. Lots of people on this forum have sigs that are well within the rules are look good, so whats the problem? If you don't like the rules you can always go to a different forum that doesn't have any signiture rules.

But I rely on signatures to identify posters. :(

Answers that really.

I too browse on my phone and I do not want to turn images on and off on the forum every time I log in on the phone or PC.

Lifes full of little rules, the best thing is to work within them but get as much of your own way as possible. That way everyone is happy but you get what you want.

For instance, someone working within the rules might be able to request a change whereas someone who isn't might not.

I don't see why everyone else's answer couldn't be more like yours.

It seems a lot of people in this thread are just rude for the sake of being rude. Sure I questioned the reasoning behind it and I debated it slightly but there really was no need to get all rude and aggressive...

 Who got rude or aggressive?

There is the post above, which sounds like it's been written by an angry person :(

And then there are the people that end what they are saying with an exclamation mark. Which implys they are shouting, and shouting is a little odd for someone who is "not" upset or ticked off...

An exclamation mark is for just that. It's not shouting, it's used to be either assertive or when some one is exclaiming something! (doh)

Wiki says an exclamation mark is a punctuation mark usually used after an interjection or exclamation to indicate strong feelings or high volume.

Why the strong feelings, it's just a sig :p

I had no text on my last one. The previous one was even smaller than allowed with one line of text underneath.

This is my whole point, I didnt break any rules.

Maybe the mods just don't like you, I've never had a sig pulled incorrectly. That said though the mods aren't particularly fond of me...

I was just trying to point out that you are the one with the problem and rather than trying to change the rules, why not simply spend 30 seconds to reduce the filesize of your sig. I just don't see why the rules would need to be changed because you either had trouble or were simply too lazy to create a sig within the rules.

As for comming across as angry, well that wasn't my intent. I actully thought it was funny that somone who has been a member less than a month, uses l337 speek and all caps in his name thinks the rules should be changed just for him.
