Not really. For example on the Stanza ereader you can setup a low vis font on a dark background so its friendly on the eyes or yes the backlight will hurt like mad.

But e readers have "e ink" screens and unless I am missing something this has a standard backlit LCD screen... Also what is the resolution on e readers? I think likely to be a lot higher than this device. The only positive this has over an ereader is that it does colour...

I feel this will be a feature left until the end to announce... the iPad without 3G would be a very stupid move by Apple in my opinion...

I don't think it would be a major issue, having just read a few more pages i've come to another conclusion, rather than this being a pointless device it could actually be quite good, as a sort of advanced remote control (there are already a few out there) so you can control your lighting and scroll down the TV listings/films, touch the program you want and it sends info for your PVR to record or change the channel, then you can flick back to reading the internet.

Only problem with that is without flash you essentially have mobile internet and without a major piece of hardware (HTPC and a variety of other bits and pieces) it won't work.
