Test drove an E46 330i Sport

Fox:

Ive seen a 1 owner 330ci on an 05 plate with 40k on the clock from a main dealer for 12k. Everything bar sat nav so got leathers etc, FSH, 6 months tax and years warranty.

How does that sound to you?

Its not badly priced for what it is but £12k is a lot of money to spend on an E46?

There's probably not a lot else out there at this price range without entering extreme running cost-territory.

For £12k you can get a very nice R129 Mercedes SL, heck you'ed have quite a bit of change if you went for an SL320, the 6 pot models shouldn't be that expensive to run. Assuming you don't need any back seats at all though :p ...you can get them with optional seats but really they are only any use if you carry very small children (i.e. legs aren't long enough to need to dangle down between the seats at all) or primordial dwarfs, or you can put your coat on it.

Ew, no thanks. Had them before, not a bad tyre but there are much better for the money.

I'll think about tyres after pay day, or the pay day after :p

i didnt find them particularly good value for money either. They werent bad tyres, but at over £200 a corner in 235/35/19 they were an absolute rip off compared with the competition.

Even the F1 assymetrics were only £150 a corner.

£12k is too much money for an E46 now which doesn't have an M badge. Especially when you can get plausible 330's for half of that now.

Tyre wise the Potenza RE050A's seem very good to me, they perform well and importantly seem to have incredible wear rates. I'd have them every time over Falken whatever's, or indeed the Goodyear Eagle's, i have issue with the life people report with those two tyres. If the car isnt going to do the mileage you may as well get the Eagles though, given they are cheaper and if anything perform the best.

Jez if you can show me where you can get a 330 with M sport kit on it for 6 Grand im all ears.

I have not bought an E46 for a few years now, so i am totally out of line with the market. There are plenty of 330 Sports advertised around this ballpark, whether or not any of them will prove to be any good is another matter, but it doesnt change the fact that £12k is far far too much to be buying one for now. My last 330ci Sport cost hardly any more than that, was ultra low mileage, the most desirable colour combo, excellent spec, completely mint, and i bought that around 3 years ago!

It was 3 years ago but the one he has found is 3 years newer? So in essence a better deal than yours as its an AUC and yours was bought at trade money privately?

Oh, for what it is..i am not knocking the price. But as you point out above, its a LOT to pay for an E46 these days.

Spend a couple extra and get a decent condition M3 or spend a few less and get an older but good condition Sport (facelift version of course though).

My vote, if you can afford to get the M3...

TBH, I think someone who was originally looking at Golf Diesels isn't in the market for an M3..

Spend less and get a slightly higher mileage model. Unless you really want a newer, lower mileage one. But it's really a waste of money.

Oi, get out of my thread :p

Vroom, vroom straight six purr :D:D
Go vmax.
