Napoloeon Total War

LOL obviously CA never learn from over hyping their products and then it all comes undone. They made the same promises with MTW2 and i felt the AI was probably worse than MTW where the actual battles were battles instead of skirmishes.

Well that's good to hear. Using the most uptodate engine/ai as a starting point is common sense, but as we all know common sense rarely appears in the released product...

another member just raised a point about empire total war and if it uses 4 cores, to which I understand the answer is no. Anyone know if Napoleon will use 4 cores?

If anyone is pre-ordering on steam and gets a spare Medievel2: Total War would you bear me in mind? I'll be veyr grateful.

Steam Id is: welshdragon220

Publisher (Sega) pays them, publisher dictates release date, publisher wants shiny stuff to market, publisher wants holiday season sales. Same thing's happened to a lot of the market of late. If you've actually played the first game in the Total War series you'd know Creative Assembly are good developers...

Am I hell buying this, fix Empire first and then I might..

I'm not handing them more money for a few splash backdrops, crap voiceovers and some new unique units..

Just noticed this on Steam:

Two highly anticipated titles from SEGA, Aliens vs. Predator and Napoleon: Total War will ship with Steamworks support at retail and online, including among other features, Achievements, Matchmaking, Leaderboards, Stats, and Cloud. Aliens vs. Predator will ship on Steam and at retail in mid-February. Napoleon: Total War will ship on Steam and at retail in late February.

Does this mean you can buy the retail copy and unlock it like MW2 and Valve games?

Awesome :). Retail for both games makes Steam pricing too uncompetitive for me - I try to avoid non-Steam stuff nowadays...

I do agree with you, however Napoleon should use the latest game engine etc built as a result of the patchs on etw, so shouldn't be as buggy as when etw was launched. I would then hope that they take it forward with a couple of patches?

Napoleon: Total War is built on an improved version of the Empire: Total War engine so it should be less buggy. From what I understand though none of the Total War games have ever been all that bug free on release though so I doubt this will be much different.

The part I'm really hoping they improve is the AI. The massive let down for me with Empire was that the diplomatic AI seemed random and the battle AI was hopeless. Still, it apparently has the co-op campaign mode that we've been waiting for! :D

I started playing E:TW quite late, and whilst the AI left something to be desired it didn't seem horrendously buggy. The biggest issue I had was that my PC couldn't handle it when there were a lot of units on screen, and there were some rendering issues.

I think I'll wait until its released and theres a consensus on whether or not its any good first.

I agree, Borrish, they have definitely rushed this one out so the chances are that it will be as buggy on release as Empire was.
I'm a big fan of Total War games but will resist buying this one until I see some trustworthy reviews and people here saying it's good to go :)

Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me.

Couldn't agree more, I'm not making the same mistake as I did the last time, I have all the Total War games and I ain't buying Napoleon unless they fix Empire.

After going through MTW2 and ETW hell there is more chance of me nailing my head to a wall then buying napoleon sorry but CA can take a long walk off a short cliff. This game is not likely to be less bugged then previous games and while it is based on the empire engine it has been totally redone if the official forum is to be believed and that's where they will screw it up.

Also bear in mind anything CA say before release should be taken with a massive pinch of salt and not be relied on to be delivered anyone that bought empire at release will know exactly what i am on about. My main reason for not buying it though will simply be because i am totally peed off with CA over their broken promises on ETW and the crappy way many of us were treated for the first six months.

Plus a few weeks after release the price will go down and probably be a special on steam at a future weekend so if you really must have i would wait there are far better games to spend your money on being released soon :).

Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me.

I want no shame, and will thus not be purchasing this new pile of poo. I don't think that out of all the buggy games I have ever owned, ETW has annoyed me the most. Partly because I had such high expectations after enjoying Medieval 1+2 and Rome, but also because when I first got the game most things were OK, with only a few bugs I noticed (apart from the STUPID installation system), but as time went by and they released more and more patches for it, the bugs got worse and worse, to the point now where crashes occur randomly every few hours or so, not that I even play that long any more because all the towns and ships just disappear about 5mins into the game... I can't believe how utterly **** ETW is, after so long for all the problems to be fixed. If I could, then I would get a refund and sue CA for the most annoying game ever, but I can't.

...In conclusion, the only reason I'll ever look at a new TW game is so I can nuke it more accurately.

edit oops, ranting on old thread.
