Napoloeon Total War

I dont know if anyone has seen this months issue of PC Gamer but it gets a some what mixed review. THe gave the first game 94% iirc which was a joke as it was pretty much unplayable when it came out but i suppose they reviewed the game as if it actually worked! This version gets 82%, which is mainly because of its AI failings again! I wouldnt hold out for much hope guys.

ETW and the review scores it got was one of the big things that lead me to never trusting reviewers again because they clearly never played the game for any length of time to give it the scores it got. If NTW has even a tiny amount of the bugs ETW has then trust me 82% is mighty generous. Sorry CA you've seen the last of my money going on your shoddy dumbed down pos's.

The AI seemed to peak in RTW and hasn't really been the same since.

For a game that's all about strategy, you'd think they would put some serious effort into tweaking the AI..

Well mine was dispatched on Friday from Zavvi. £25 notes for the special (I own the others so made sense (i know crazy)) was less than a PS3 game plus you can use the special units in multiplayer. This game is shaping up well. Its not a RTW but then it would take CA a lot to make a game like that again. And to be honest RTW on release was awful and thats coming from a guy who has bought a new PC for each the series (not expansions of course).

The gfx have been given an overhaul, obviously stealing from the mods out there.

On a sidenote, Darth (Darthmod ultimate is pretty dam amazing, on Total realism levels) and his little team of modders are going to be modding this and they have the ability to make the game CA should have.

I'm hoping that CA will take note and leanr from the mess up that ETW and to a lesser extent MTW2 was.

Just ordered a copy from amazon, the drop in multiplayer for campaign battles sounds like a cool feature. Haven't read up on it too much just noticed it in a review.

Although do you have to play as the French? Would much rather be Sharpe instead of Napoleon :)

Need something to take my mind off SC2 beta anyway.

I've not ordered NTW this time round :( I absolutely loved Rome, and Medieval II, they were pretty amazing with the mods - Empire seemed to take a bit of a nose-dive, particularly in the AI department as people have pointed out. Although the mods make a huge improvement, I can't get excited about this one. Once bitten, twice shy. It's a huge shame though and I really hope NTW proves me wrong! I've just got a feeling that it will require the same amount of tweaking as Empire, and that takes a lot of time.

I used to really like playing Cossacks II and judging from a stream on Justin.TV the battles in Napoloen Total War look quite reminiscent of it. Looking forward to getting my hands on it a bit more now.

My copy should have arrived but still waiting. Guess i'll get it for the weekend so at least i can play it without any worries about staying up too late etc.

As to short gameplay: the single player does look short esp if you play on medium. VH is the only way to play TW and the modders will sort out length. Multiplayer is the way to go with this though. The problems have been sorted since the original release.

Anyone managed to get this in local computer game stores yet...in the uK?

I have been trying with the local game shops and they aint selling until tomorrow...I tried to blag it saying that my clan mates are in the states and they are playing it - but they wouldnt budge!

Arrived from the Channel Islands today, but ....

Poo!

oh em gee, damn that's annoying. Hopefully it's just because it's before the release date and a standard fail message, how would they cancel your purchase?

After Rome Total War I never play another one of these games in the Series.... I honestly can't believe some of the comments about Empire total war..

Was it really that bad? Oh dear... Such a shame. Its all to common nowadays, games get released too early and full of bugs, by the time its updated and fixed the game is no longer being played by most and it never reaches its full potential..

Silent Hunter 4
Grand Prix 4

Those were the same. Technically excellent games, just very buggy when released and then patched afterwards, by then the damage was done..
