Following on from my other thread regarding my overall score in 3DMARK06 I am struggling to understand why I've had such a massive difference in my score. I've gone from 19536 (default BIOS settings) to 26983 after overclocking to 4GHZ.

Surely this much overclock hasn't made that much difference?

I'm currently running these settings,

AI overclock, manual
cpu ratio 20
Speedstep on
Turbo mode off
BLCK 200
PCIE Freq 100
cpu voltage 1.35
Dram voltage 1.64
Load line calibration enabled
Spread spectrum disabled
Clock skew disabled.
Ram set at 1600 mhz and timing as per spec.

My specs are

ASUS P6TD Dluxe
HD5970
i7 920 D0
6GB Corsair ram cas 8
Corsair HX850w

Can somebody tell me if these settings are okay for the overclock and why I have had such a massive difference in my 3DMARK 06 score after altering the BIOS settings as 7000+ points is nothing to be ignored.

Thanks.

If its a stock core2quad (q6600 etc) then yes. Stock core i3, and core 2 duo's then yes. Stock i7, then there could be a possiblilty. However, I never see anyone with a stock i7 :p

I have had to drop my cpu back to just under 3.9 due to instability and i'm still getting 26000 point so YES the cpu at stock is bottlenecking the 5970. I have tried stock again and it gone back to 19500.

So it seems that a nice fast cpu will unleash the real power of the 5970.

Hi just checked a few 5970/5870 reviews and not one used a stock i7 920, mimium CPU setting was 3.2 GHz or i7 965 / 975.

What are your individual CPU/GPU scores?
Was it just your CPU score raising that increased your overall score or did your GPU actually change much?

When overclocking an i7 920 with a 5850 there was very little difference made to the GPU score but the overall score increased due to the CPU rising nicely.

Score at cpu stock was 4974 and went to 6524 after overclock. Which is why i'm struggling to understand the 7000+ difference. 5970 is not overclocked.

Your CPU score was 4974? We must be running different versions of 3Dmark, Mine gets 44000.

EDIT: Im on 3Dmark Vanage

Hi just thought l'd run 3DMRK06 to see my rating and compare with a 5970.
My i7 920 OC'd > 4.0GHc / 5870 OC'd > 870/1250MHz -
