The Passat of Love

Well the petrolheads choice of Golf would surely be a GTI. What happened, couldnt you afford it? What about a nice Mk5 GTI instead?

R32 is the petrolheads choice. Gti is the choice of the badge snob, whom, like my 8v mk3, is perfectly content with a car called a gti without gti performance. I wasnt! Funnily enough the passat which is simply a PD130 not only outhandles the golf gti I owned, it out performs it in everything except braking.

isnt the 1.4 TSI the 170hp supercharged and turbocharged engine ? So shouldnt be THAT boring afterall ?

I've driven both the GTI and the R32.

The GTI was the better car, IMHO.

It's 158bhp.

anybody tempted to do a chris moyles still cover of "the power of love" by frankie goes to hollywood but instead call it "the passat of love"

suggestions as to how to re-write the chorus ? :D

The passat of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

Absolutey. I've been totally owned by a factually incorrect comment.

Yup

also by you looking like a complete hypocrite in that your mrs's wont let you purchase the car you want and then by claiming you purchased a car for comfort yet you have a 1.4 hatchback, and they're just the three most prevalent things you have been caught out with.

I rarely come into Motors but it's nice to see a thread about someone posting some pictures of their car turns into some kind of baiting of the BMW owners by, funnily enough, a VW owner.

I often contemplate how boring M5 ownership might be, which is why instead I'm going to get a Polo.

But those two Bimmers in the garage aren't M5s...

8s 0-100 km/h, not boring by my standards but my standards are obviously lower than people that prefer to drive around in ancient gas guzzlers. It develops maximum torque between 1500 and 4100 rpm.

So it is... It produces less power than the older car?

Correct. I think it's something to do with the dry clutch 7 speed gearbox, which is actually more efficient than the MkV's 6 speed wet clutch version, but can handle less power safely (though I don't think that's the reason for the power reduction).

When did I say that? She will let me purchase the car I want, she just won't let me sell the Golf. Two different things. In any case the car is registered in her name so she ultimately has right of veto.

But your point was that you couldn't possibly have two Mk6 Golfs, but those are two E39 BMW's.

Who drives around in ancient "gas guzzlers"?

Presumably you can only realistically get the car you want by selling the Golf though, hence preventing you from buying the "car you want to buy".
