The Passat of Love

Depends what experience you've got to compare it to.

Driving experience ? How does a 380hp at the wheels, rwd sierra cosworth equate ?

I knew what I wanted from a saloon and I test drove a number of cars, including BMW's. A 530d felt better to be in, but not specifically better as to endure the servicing and running costs of it. Therefore, a 530d in my opinion is sportier than a passat 1.9td, but not enough to justify the added cost.

Plus you cant find a 530d m-sport for £2k.

Actually

Why do you view the Motors section exactly?

It's for car enthusiasts and clearly you are out of place.

That clearly reads to me that if your not a car enthusiast it is of his opinion that you cannot post in Motors. So if someone posts up "what oil for my 1.1 fiesta" they should be banned as Motors is for car enthusiasts and not for people with no interest in cars other than what they need to get to work and back ?

Also, from his other words, because my passat is "boring" and because I own that passat, I am therefore not an enthusiast and shouldnt be here...

i'd have to agree with that

the latter depends entirely on your own available income of course, but to conceed that the BMW is better, but more expensive cant be argued with - on both counts.

You were asked what thrills you about motoring and the best you could come up with was having a warranty.

Anyway, if I could pinpoint a specific scenario under which I enjoy motoring the most, it'd be zooming around country lanes in a pocket rocket with the top down, which is why I'm looking for a decent Elise near to me as a second car.

Reading's not your forte? That's cool. Just run it past peterattheboro that you're still ok to post in motors kthx.

Owned.

Infact, Robbie G be getting owned all over this thread, that was just the bestest

Absolutey. I've been totally owned by a factually incorrect comment.

I was lucky to find a passat for 2k, they were all going for 3k, and even then, when you can buy a perfectly acceptable car that does 50mpg on a run, doesnt struggle with hills with 4 people and luggage in it, has high sound proofing and nice ride quality, aircon etc, you dont really NEED to spend more do you ? Then one comes up in good condition with 89k on the clock for £2200....

I just want to say that green is in fact red, doesn't matter what you all think, I know green is in fact red....or blue, but it's NOT orange!!

You can be out of place yet still welcome. I was out of place driving a 530i as a student. I still did it..

You da man

the day you thrown caution to the wind and buy a proper petrolhead motor is the day i eat my hat. With tomato sauce.

What should I buy then? Seriously? Give me six months and some good advice and I'll have a proper 'petrol head' motor. And I bet when you eat your hat you'll crap out bloody-looking bull**** harhar.

And what can I say, I'm a cautious guy.

Please can everyone submit their reasons for being allowed to post in this forum section to peterattheboro at which point he will call you through for a telephone interview. Subsequently you will asked to attend a group workshop for one day. A final one-on-one competency-based interview with off-the-wall "petrol head", peterattheboro, will decide your worthiness or lack thereof.

As Fox said, I didn't say you shouldn't post here. I asked why because you don't seem like a guy who enjoys driving very much.

Fair enough. Perhaps this in the OP would have gone down a treat :p

Well the petrolheads choice of Golf would surely be a GTI. What happened, couldnt you afford it? What about a nice Mk5 GTI instead?

When we ordered (we needed a car fairly promptly) they weren't yet taking orders for the GTi. I could still sell this for more than we paid for it but the Mrs. point blank won't let me (she cried about it, so it seems a Golf can actually stir up emotion in some people). I also couldn't get a GTi now and have two MkVI Golfs in the household, it would just seem weird.

Golf R, if I'm being sensible, is beyond my financial clout at this time, and by the time it isn't I very much doubt I'll be interested in shelling out £30k on a four cylinder hatchback. In a few years however then maybe I will px the GT against one to hopefully gain acceptability as a veritable 'petro head' amongst OcUKMS.

There were numerous Mk5 GTI's on Approved Used forecourts all over the country though.

Really? Appreciation? On a car bought new?

Yes, imagine having two similar cars, the shame!

.

It's a petrol, MrLOL. And what excites me about motoring is not buying a tacky chav mobile that I couldn't afford to maintain, yet weirdly replacing it with another time bomb money pit. Maybe your Mrs. will let you keep this one ;).
