*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

I swear Square Enix have completely lost it and have no clue, the more I read about the game the more I wonder WTF they're on. Half the fun in FF games are the side quests, exploration and the mini-games, they just completely ignore what fans want/enjoy and do what ever the hell they please.

They've already screwed over one of my favourite franchises by completely ignoring it and now they've even managed to screw this series up for me too.

I just hope the next installment take a step backwards like 12 did from 10. And gives us less of a graphical masterpiece and more of a masterpiece.

I've had them all also. Even 11 lol.

With all the other games out in March I can't be paying for this and letting the others slide by.

or final fantasy 7+8. graphics are really bad compared to todays standards, yet they are both much much better games than say.. FF12. (which was terrible i may add) the only good FF game from that time period, was final fantasy tactics for PSP.
 
I think 13 will still be a fine game, it just won't be a fine FF. Wannabedammed, buy 13 and enjoy it and don't regret doing so. I've slammed 13 a lot in this thread, but thats only because Square set such a high bar. If it were any other game, I'd probably be a lot more forgiving.
 
Im sorry but we will never ever see a Final Fantasy as good as 7:eek::(
i did like 10 but 10/2 was Sh**te how dare thay make ultramet weapon in to a normal enemy

But i am looking forward to this hope its good
realy hope its got a good story

Would love to have a new and proper Parasite Eve game again. The upcoming PSP "The 3rd Birthday" doesn't really count. It will just be the Dirge of Cerberus of that series.

Not played any of those. I was actually refering to Front Mission, it's been over 4 years since the last release, but that one was only released in Japan and the one before that was released 6 years ago, but only in Japan and North America... Front Mission Evolved is being released on multiple platforms all over the world this year, but I can tell you now it is going to fail thanks to a number of reasons.

1. The Front Mission team has nothing (or very little) to do with development, they have been split up and are working on various other titles, one of which is FFXIII.

2. Thanks to Square whoring the license out to some American Developer who has made nothing but crappy games based off films e.g Star Wars Episode III

3. The main series is known as Turn based Strategy RPG (think FF Tactics even though FF Tactics was based off Front Mission :p) but Front Mission Evolved is a 3rd person action Mech game in the same vein as Armored Core (likely this decision was made to appeal to the average American gamer and as a result a big slap in the face to fans of the series)

It's just a sore point of mine because all they do is rape FF or Dragon Quest and everything else gets ignored because they don't sell enough, that problem would be solved if they actually advertised the damn games, which they never did with Front Mission 4 and as a result it sold like ****.

/rant over (I could keep going but I think I made my point :p)
 
I just listened to the whole OST.
It's probably the best video game soundtrack i've ever heard, and I consider myself quite the connoisseur when it comes to video game music.

- You're absolutely right about Leona Lewis. The common melody in the game reflects the Japanese single by Sayuri Sugawara - Kimi ga Irukara in much the same way Kingdom Hearts main theme song used the melody from Utada Hikaru's Simple and Clean. Because of this, "My Hands" feels very distant from the other tracks in the game and honestly serves no place in it.

Also; the song is really bad.

Ok can i just ask, i thought it was a definite that the CE came with the usual FF logo on white background, but looking at all the pictures including the one from the FF13 site, it seems as though it's just the sleeve and the game itself is the normal lightning version?
I preordered from the hut for £49.26 but i think you'l be able to get the standard version for £30 on release, for an extra £20 i really want that logo on white background and not just a sleeve.
 
its sounding worse and worse to me...

the whole apeal of FFVII was the Characters, story, cool battles, cool materia, huge explorable worlds where you could chocabo up, detour, fight some weapons...

so how can Square release something with lame characters, terrible battle structure, lame no materia, ultra linear world, no detours, and no random weapon battles?

its like they took FF, turned it upside down into any old random RPG forgetting what made FFVII stand out in the first place...?
 
Have you played a Final Fantasy since 7? 8,9,10,12 all had no materia, they had their own things that were just as fun. So does 13.

The huge explorable world thing is basically gone, Final Fantasy 12 was like a lame instanced MMO, the last proper one we got was in Dragon Quest VIII.
The battles actually look like the best in the series for me, and complaints about linearity, personally mean nothing to me as X is my favorite FF and that was basically one path to the end which only remotely opened up in the calm lands.

Cant really judge stories and characters since I dont have the game yet.

For now i'll keep my preorder, PS3 version is sold out nearly everywhere, and i got a good price at £49.26, i just hope it arrives on time, no idea what the hut are like for preorders.
But if it goes sub £30 for a preorder ill snap that up tbh, £20 for a CD and a variety of art in different forms is a bit much tbh. I'm not the biggest final fantasy fan, i can live without.

Everyone marked Lost Odyssey down for being linear and not allowing much free roaming. I personally really enjoyed Lost Odyssey and definitely got more playtime out of it than a lot of other 360 games that are highly rated (MW2, Bioshock, Assassins Creed).
