??????I was speaking to a lass at work today whose other half is in Afghanistan. Scots Guards I think she said but I may be wrong.
Anyway, she said that the MoD have shaved the budget by not sending bottled water any longer and have opted for water purification tablets instead.
Can any of our members who are serving there shed any light on this ?
I'm just saying in a warzone your not going to get everything you might want, what's next complaining about not having toilet paper, lipstick?
Whilst it might not be ideal to live on iodine or whatever tabs, if it says us money and doesn't kill them then fine.
The Army is not a frickin charity you know. If they have to cut back to water purification tablets, so be it. Stop baby sitting our military, they knew they job they were signing up for. It could be a hell of a lot worse if bottled water is all you are worrying about.
Water purification tablets are 99.9% effective in the majority of locations anyway.
Indeed.plenty more can be cut back on before bottled water and what not.

Dangerstat your stupidity on yet another subject amazes me![]()
You utter prat.
As for the link above for water purification systems, this is probably how the rumour got started (as they all do) with a little truth and then adding emotion.
Go and look up "morale" in the dictionary. Jeeez. Some people amaze me.My point is quite simple. They need body Armour to stop them being killed, I whole heartedly support that, as do I on anything that keeps them safe. I have read, nor seen any evidence that having to use purifying tablets to drink water would risk their lives. Can someone point me to an example of British solider dying because of drinking water that is purified with tablets????? Please post it here and I'll be the first to change my opinion. If not perhaps start FOLLOWING THE RULES OF THE FORUM.

Purification tablets make water taste gash also.
dangerstat, your stupidity on this subject is amazing, as pointed out. Its not a personal subject either, its a fact.
Its not like im calling you stupid or anything is it...?
Think about what your saying. Your argument is that because something doesn't taste too great we should spend millions shipping them stuff? What? I don't know what has gone wrong with you lot. There where very legitimate complaints about what our troops in Afghanistan where getting (poor supply of helicopters / not properly equipped) which are utterly genuine and needed addressing urgently, but fusing about water that tastes a bit funny.... give me a break!
Go down soldier of fortune pick yourself up a load of the army ones try living of them a week or two.
It's funny you should say that. I'm looking at the ones I've used in that past year (http://www.lifesystems.co.uk/psec/water_purification/water_chlorine.htm). The life system ones, and whilst it wasn't actually nice, I certainly wouldn't expect a professionally trained military to complain about it. If the military ones are much worse then I'd certainly support any expenditure for them to be equipped with better tablets of course.
why use tablets at all?
It's going to be much cheaper to just have a water company set up wells and filtration + treatment equipment like they have.

If that's the case then fine. I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that we should expect that trained soldiers shouldn't really moan about having to drink tablet purified water if asked to do so. I hope they can get fresh and clean water for less expense than a tablet purified alternative![]()

But the soldier haven't complained it's everyone else who pays for the army that's complaining
Although making it so the troops water tastes like ****, you increase the risk that they will use local water hen out etc and risk getting sick.
No, instead of spending millions on moral weakening SHORT TERM solutions the money should be better spent by investing in a more suitable solution established closer to the troops.. which is what has happened.
Small things like the taste of water is a big thing to people out there, the money for that has nothing to do with military hardware.
You are extremely naive, its ridiculous you cant grasp the whole concept of moral and what not, its the little things that make a difference, but what would you know?
