Is Farcry2 worth a look?

the poorness of the game had nothing to do with the consoles.

Sorry but what about the horrendous use of dynamic spawn points? Or the checkpoints rebuilt and repopulated about 5 mins after you nuked them, or a weapon you leave lying around fairly close by thats magically vanished when you go back to pick it up. These little niggles all reek of console memory limitations and when compared to a proper PC open-world game like STALKER its just laughable.

goodness me, its not that bad! i admit it wasnt brilliant, the respawns at every check point got, irritating. But if nothing else is about its a lot better than some other games about, just it not comparable to FC1!

yes it was. in addition to your gun taking up about 60% of the screen if you had tha audacity to use widescreen, the field-of-view made it feel like you spend the whole game playing with your nose squished against the screen.

additionally, it gets annoying when every entity in the game tries to kill you. no matter what the in-game crummy excuse is, it's pathetic.

it just gets boring - drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover, drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover, drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover, drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover, drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover, drive for 5 seconds, get out, kill everyone, fix land rover...

you get the point.

Best point for me was when I got a brand new sniper rifle and it exploded in my hands after using an entire 2 clips. That was fun half way through a mission I'd just travelled the entire way across the map for.

As pretty much everyone has said its awful, far too repetitive, annoying and dull.

Keep your money and stay away.

I wish there was modding tools for this game. As it stands the game designis down right awful. Give the game to some good moders to slow the respawns and get rid of the long driving and it would be good.

As it is its more like "far drive 2"

I was so looking forwards to it after playing FC1 which is awesome.

They should have called it 'Far Cried 2' as that is what I nearly did it is that awful. :(

The game does a few things right imho. When it comes to 'blowing stuff up' and general chaos-causing, this game is second to none.

As other people have pointed out it does have a few gaping holes in it: The re-spawn times, the repetitiveness in the main story etc. But if you've got the patience to overlook that stuff then you'll be rewarded with some damn fun explosions.

Worth the money imho.

Did it ever occur to you not to get back in the land rover if you found it boring? Without seeming to come accross arrogant by saying "Your doing it wrong" I do find that many people don't change their play style for different games and expect tried and tested run-and-gun approach to work and for the game to let them get away with it.

Usually I don't like sandbox games because as stated before, they get repetative and dull but I rather enjoyed the game. I do appreciate that I am in the minority however. For £8 its worth a punt, go for it!

I completed it and quite enjoyed it in spite of it's irritations. The big mistake they made was to make it open world, rather than just have large levels like the original FarCry. All the annoying things in the game come from the way they handle that one choice:

- Re-spawning checkpoints
- Too much pointless driving
- Collect quests and other repetitive side quests thrown in to pad the game out

Once you have some decent weapons and the camo suit there is actually a lot of fun to be had in some of the set pieces. And the gfx are excellent and perform superbly well even on a fairly average pc.

However, to enjoy the game i had to pretty much ignore everything other than the main quest otherwise it gets really repetitive. And i also spent most of my time travelling by bus or skirting round the edge of the map to avoid the checkpoints. Which is a shame really, as the environment looks great and there's a half decent game in there somewhere as well...

The game became a lot more bearable once I had completed the first island, though the second was still nothing to write home about. The gameplay is repetitive, and constantly driving around only to be ambushed or chased every 10 seconds becomes tiresome. The graphics are good, though, if nothing else.

I thought it was good but It a poor storyline and other annoyances already mentioned in this thread,if you like blowing stuff and setting jungles on fire get it but if its a deep engrossing storyline you want stay away.

i got FC2 off steam for like £7, im pretty disappointed, lovely graphics though. i suppose i need to upgrade my weapons and stuff yet to get a better feel.

I played about half of it, but only because there was nothing else to play and the graphics were nice. It's a real shame; they built a great engine and a cool place to explore, but forgot the gameplay or any story.
