Which performance estate under £10k?

hard to go faster for cheaper. And you cant beat vauxhall running costs.

Agree with you there, i was thinking of these, but couldnt find any near me.

There's not really a lot out there that isn't German if you don't want a Volvo.
You'll never see 30mpg in a petrol Volvo anyway :p

Although i doubt you'll get 30mpg out of a Legacy either, it's worth a look..

boot doesnt look quite big enough

OK, should have said. The dogs are two full grown Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They dont look too comfy when there in the A4 now!

Well that changes everything.

The Vectra estate is on of the bigest car's i've ever had the displeasure of driving, perhaps one of those is in order then.

Which performance estate and 'Peugeot 407' in the same thread?

I think the OP has a rather different view of 'performance' to most of the rest of the forum.

In which case I'd definately go for the e39 I posted.

My ex had ridgies, and one was a squeeze into an e46 tourer, but two fit fine into the e39. Split tailgate also means you can open the glass without letting the dogs out.

It's not really performance at all, its just a regular diesel Estate :) Which is good, it means you can ignore most of the stuff in this thread because you'll obviously be just as happy with a far more normal car and can save a load of cash. Stuff like a Vectra VXR will be considerably faster but cost loads more to run - no point going for it if you are happy with less.

Go for something like a Mondeo Estate, Accord Tourer, etc. They'll suit you down to the ground, be modern, and offer you the blend of performance, space and economy you want.

I wouldnt. Its a fantastic car and I'd buy it without even bothering to ask OcUK but its nearly 8 years old and carries the sort of running costs that you'd expect a once £40,000 8 year old BMW with self levelling air suspension to carry. The kinda chap after a nearly new Peugeot isn't going to appreciate the qualities of the BMW enough to put up with the disadvantages associated with a car of that age.

Spoke sense then TW but then ruined it with your usual pro bwm dribble! :D

You have two ridgebacks, you are that old already, your mind just hasn't caught up yet.

If your old and have Ridgebacks, then your asking for trouble!

I like toyota, just dont like the look of the Avensis estate.

Before i bought the A4 i was looking at 530D tourers! Just i decided to go for the A4 as all the 5's had galactic millage, and they still do.

BMW X5 3.0D, it'll be getting on a bit, it'll cost lots to run, i.e. to replace the tyres will require you to re-mortgage your house, the cooling system will blow up and it might eat it’s own gearbox as it gets over about 125k ...but otherwise it's a nice car, loads of usable space, high driving position so one can lord it over the great unwashed and decent performance ...but wont hurt you too much at the pumps.

On the other hand if you’d be happy in any kind of Peugeot or Vauxhall (VXR's accepted), don’t by a BMW, it isn’t the car for you.

You say all the 5's have galactic mileage, I beg to differ, while they are getting on a bit I have seen a number of tourings with circa 80k mileage, this is not even close to galactic, indeed for the age of the car it's pretty much what you would expect.

Here is a nice example, it's got a pretty naff spec and it's expensive, but it's looks like one of the best example you will find these days, it's for sale only 2 miles from me, I thoguht about looking at it myself, but it wasn't what I was looking for. It has one of the best interior colour combos I have seen in a 5 series too.

Oh I almost forgot, to make a proper suggestion. Well I think a Honda Accord Tourer would work well for you, it isn't fast but it has loads of space, it's reliable, it's modern and frighteningly sensible.
