Sounds like you have had quite a time of it pal, what went so wrong in the States ?
I made the most of a contact to eventually gain some voluntary work experience and made an impression. I applied via the usual application process for the job and was selected for verbal reasoning and mathematical tests. Afterwards I was invited to an assessment centre, which I somehow survived and was offered the job - hooray!!
The job starts two years after I accepted it.... what a faff. I'd like some monies please!

Well, I joined up to projects roll out, was forced into managing software procurement for a site of 7000+ ALONE, got sick of it as management didn't see I was struggling, handed in my resignation and was offered a it field engineer position due to my it knowledge and took it

Didn't know what I wanted to do after college so signed up for a temping agency to do admin, filing etc. Eight years later and I'm still at the same company in a staff position now, and have gone from oily rag to specialist IT support
Went to school, then straight to uni.
Was working in a Bike shop as a mechanic and wasn't sure what to do, was going to take a gap year.
A friend from Uni had a family friend who ran an IT consultancy who was looking for graduates. Got the job but hated my boss.
Meanwhile the same friend from uni was working at a different company, knew I was good but hated my current job and got me to send my CV to his company. Got the job, love it.
Got chatting to one of the guys in our Dubai office after helping him out with some stuff, said it sounds pretty cool out there, got offered a job, start in April.
