untaxed car question

Almost sounds like their are people in this thread with something to hide.

I want to see pics of everyones tax disks right now!!

Those are a joke. Matey had his plates stolen, reported it then got new plates the same day. He then proceeded to pass an ANPR van set up randomly over a 4 week period on a certain road on his way to work, did not get tugged once.

Yes but you have to keep your vehicle off the road, it has to be in a garage/off road parking.

The OP stated the owner is driving his car on the road so he is not abiding by the SORN regs.

They can (and probably will) decline to pay out for your own damages, but by law they MUST pay out to a third party.

What does that have to do with it? I was proving that no tax != no insurance.

yeah but the car tax dodgers driving the car with it declared SORN when its not are not likely to pay for insurance either.

Usually if they wont pay something as cheap as tax, they wont pay for insurance either.

Yes its not the same, but with these type of people one offence usually goes hand in hand with the other.

You are very much mistaken, I really wish people would stop stating things as fact when it's just some vague opinion they have.

Providing the car is insured, the insurers have a liability to third parties irrespective of the legality of the car, which protects other road users. In the unlikely event his policy explicitly states that his car must be taxed, then he will be the one to lose out if he needs to claim from it.

I couldn't care less if someone is driving around with no tax, that's entirely their lookout. No insurance is a different matter, but one does not always imply the other.
 
I am slightly concerned that some people on here think its okay to do nothing about it. The OP stated the driver has convictions for Drink driving, coupled with the possibility of having no tax which probably means he has no insurance. Oh and I bet the vehicle isnt tested, yeah lets do nowt about it and let them drive on our roads.
 
I see, you are changing the subject now you lost that battle? He has done what he can, he informed the DVLA, nothing else he can legally do.

LOL at all the (probable) tax dodgers...

Sure there are times when people really should mind their own business... when no ones really getting hurt, etc. but the guy is potentially hitting every honest person in the pocket, may or may not be properly insured as well which again is sticking it to honest people... if hes really has no tax and or insurance hes scum and deserves to be dobbed in.
