New 27-inch UltraSharp U2711 WQHD announced.

in what way is it not there? I mean it is there so I can't see how you have come to this conclusion. It is there now, it was there yesterday and it will be there tomorrow. It's there my friend. straight up, no messin there.

It is not visible on the website.

I saw it when I first went there this morning.

I go there now and I cannot see it.

Straight up, no messin'.

Right, I can find it by searching for it, but I cannot see it in the "Widescreens 23" & Up" section.

On a serious note, if I chose the buy now pay August 2010 option will I be charged interest between now and august? From looking at the advert I would say yes but it isn't clear if the figure quoted is for after august or before.

How similar is this to the imac screen, I imagine it's not glass or even glossy? My heart pines for a screen like the 27" imacs!

It's the same panel without LED backlighting I think. It lacks the glossy display which gives the deep black and satisfying image on the Imacs but it's for a good reason. The anti glare, matt coating makes it usable in brightly lit environments.

However, if you like the Imac screens you will hate this monitor. the anti-glare coating (for me at least) gives the monitor a blurry, sparkly appearance.

I'm still trying to figure out what they are doing and how it will make the screen better

well, they are laying wet paper towels on the bare screen, after 3-4 hours the antiglare coating will soack so it should just peel off, it is meant to boost black levels and colors+ on the U2410 will get rid of the sparkly/dirty look on whites. Is an interesting solution. I don't know if I would have the guts to do it though, this monitor costed me some £400 and obviously DELL guarantee won't cover that.

Ahh ok thanks.

So this anti-glare coating is a big cause for poor contrast ratios?

Yes I understand about the £400 and not wanting to do it ;)

I guess people hoped this screen was coming in to replace the 2709w in terms of price when in fact, DELL see it as a 16:9 3008wfp.

Well done OCUK though, your price takes out the sting a bit.

Price announcement = nail in coffin.

Off to buy a 27" iMac i5 next week.... :(

realistically.... these may drop to £800ish in a while, but we're not going to see them around £650 (where they should be) for ages, if ever.

could see my self geting one of these if price was around £600 but no way
at £937 . would pay U.S PRICE $1000 witch is £637 .

The $1099.99 price from Dell isn't strictly correct as you have to remember most states pay state tax and Dell's US delivery isn't terribly cheap either. If you purchased it on a card there's also no way you would get the actual dollar rate from your bank. I know Natwest charge about 3-5 cents with their charges included so you'd be looking over £700 anyway.

Unfortunately the biggest problem isn't Dell, it's our superb government.:o

You have to add additional duty because it has a HDMI port and then stick the VAT on top.

Plus import duty

Welcome to (tax) Britain!

Still agree with snake247 that if this was more like £650 I would have got though :p
