What was it?

I've had lots of big smile moments after doing various mods - strangely enough I think one of the biggest smile moments was fitting a £20 grainger valve to an 03 Impreza WRX - 40 bhp gain in 20 minutes flat and the car sprang to life, different animal. Had lots of fun messing with various other cars too, but that up the boost moment on the WRX was truly magical.
 
I fitted a rear strut brace that made a huge difference to handling, most noticeable on faster corners.

Also fitting a full turbo kit to a Civic VTi made an insane difference. :D
 
Tough one...

It's either the ball & spring boost controller (simialr story to merlin, increased the boost from 6 to 12psi) or the Mongoose downpipe back exhaust that I fitted just before the RR last year.

The old cat pipe was something like 1.8" in diameter so I can definitely see why it was strangling the car after I fitted the new turbo and bigger downpipe.

Bang for buck, it's got to be the boost controller though!
 
Hard to pick just one. Probably go for the R888s on the track car (if you can count tyres as a mod). Otherwise a Janspeed on any of the mk1s I've fitted them to. Love the sound.
 
Mine was some hubcaps that looked like 5 spoke alloys.. well, after some spray paint they did!! On a mk4 red escort

Oh, this is best mod, not worst :(
 
That's exactly what I wanted on the CTR, but the difference in supposed gains wasn't too different, whilst the price was.
 
Creating a bodge to replace the turbo actuator on my old volvo 480 using a spring from a toothpaste bottle, and a long bit of wire.

It made more boost with that than the standard part that volvo wanted 300 quid for! (car had cost me £411)

Made me smile a lot :D

I can picture you setting off quickly from a set of traffic lights, booting it in 1st and then having to pull up 200 yds down the road with tears streaming down your face :D

I had goosebumps when you put it on the rollers.

I actually had to stop the car as tears were rolling down my face! Sounded just like a race car. Happy days. :D

Reminds me when I got my Prelude back on the road for the first time.

New engine.
+ Full tubular manifold/downpipe and stainless exhaust system

I drove it out of the garage, and laughed maniacly as i booted it! My GF turned and looked at me and I think her exact words were "Its a beast!!"
 
De-locking the drivers door. Such a cheap mod and deters the local ****** from ramming a screwdriver into the barrell lock.
