stupid question but is this a freely accesible street like any other i.e can members of the public drive past etc or is it in some kind of gated community and heavily guarded?
Needless to say, there are also tactical positions on roofs on both sides. Oddly though - usually not manned.
As far as I'm aware, it is dependent upon the current security threat and related response level.Last time I was there they had guys with G36 in tactical positions, several policemen with mp5s on the street and concrete obstructions either side of the gate - tho they seem to be missing inside on the picture above.

Current UK threat level is "SEVERE", so I'd expect more of the positions to be manned, as per the "Heightened" response level.
Poo hits the fan at "Critical" threat and "Exceptional" response. Not sure if Whitehall (and critical national infrastructure in general) would remain open to the public in this case.
lets just say the window cleaner walking up and down most of the week probably doesnt have cleaning apparatus in his pockets
... and that really isn’t a ladder he is carrying.![]()
That's funny? I do not find that funny.Edit Found it on YouTube, was Mark Thomas...
