Your Satnav..

How can a huge light source glowing brightly in the centre of your windscreen not be a hazard? It'll reflect itself all over the interior glass for a start :p

Have you ever thought that some people might be left handed.. :p

and therefore have a preference to looking to their left at the satnav?

I put mine right in the middle of the screen and at the base of the screen by the heater vents. Putting it on the right hand side increases the already fairly large blindspot due to the A pillar.

I know what night mode is and how to use it though ;)

TBh at night I find the poorly adjusted headlights, fog lights, drivers that fail to dip the high beams, one bulb significantly brighter than the other all much more distracting than my sat nav light colour scheme ;)

but its a distraction for the person driving.

So is having a sat nav in night mode stuck to your screen. Unless you can find a place outside the swept area to stick it; it's actually illegal, it's an MOT failure. It may even be illegal regardless of where you stick it, depending on how you interpret the rules.

Where should the line be drawn? Using a mobile? Tuning the radio? You're just fuelling the nanny state with this.

arghh yes, why do like 50% of the cars on the road have defective (blinding) headlights

That's true yea, an awful lot seem to, the number of cars I have seen this winter with one light out or at least one totally misaligned is ridiculous ...including a police car!

It's impossible to drive on the motorway without the inside of your car being lit up from behind.

You just want to ask them "Can you not see the line your dipped beams are drawing across that man's roof-box? You're clearly blinding him!"

Or the ones who drive down the road with the interior light on, meaning all they can see out of the side window is a reflection of the interior.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT WAS INVENTED FOR THESE PEOPLE

I find it hard to believe you have never turned the interior light on whilst driving on the motorway? I know I have to quickly find something without raking about in the dark or whilst a passenger does something similar.

If this happened to my sister she would not notice, she has never opened the bonnet in her life, my Dad has to top up her screen wash for her! ...she seems to think washing the car is a 'service' job :p ...quite few people are like this really.

When I turn on my interior light my hazard lights go on ;)
Kindof appropriate actually since it would probably imply my full attention is not currently focussed on the road..

What kind of 'elf 'n' safety' designed car do you have then ? :p ...oh a 106, does it really do that or is it a result of the characterful French electrics.

Yeah, but it's not that bad though. Your argument loses credibility when you start exaggerating.

There are multiple downloadable night modes for tomtom, try "yellow road at night" or "Laguna II", clear, easy to read, none of that all roads green, your route greener malarky.

Didn't know that. I'll have a look at TomTom home and see what I can find.

My TomTom One had about five different colour schemes for night mode from factory...

The default was this.

You'd have to be either colourblind or simple not to be able to tell the difference between route and other road.

My one is admittedly an older model (920) but only has minor roads in black. B roads show up in green, A roads in a brighter green and your route in a slightly brighter green. All in all a bit rubbish when giving it a quick glance on a tricky roundabout or junction.

These people are probably all idiots who dont even realise it has a night mode, surprising they can get it working, I much prefer night mode and use it during the day at times.

I like my radio's night mode. Activates with the side-lights.

I set the screen as dim as it would go in day and night modes, still too bright, but the colour of the screen is chosen with RGB sliders, so I pulled them all down by 50%. Am I a power user or what!
