Winter Olympics 2010

BUMP!
The boardercross is on now!
If your not watching it, TURN IT ON NOW. It's bloody brilliant :D

Why do snowboards make so much noise?! :p

They always looks so much more unstable than skis. :p

It's good but skicross is better. ;)

Watching the Mens Board Cross, its good BUT, those commentators!

Will they shutup please? the guy talks way too much about stuff that isn't even revelant and the woman has the most annoying whiny little voice ever!

Sounds like a rant but they are ruining one of the best events of the games :(

Much more pressure on the edge = more noise i think.
Yeh, im interested to see the skiercross, never seen it before. Dont expect it will be as close as the boarders tho.

I meant the landings, because of the massive surface area of the boards. :D

Ski cross is pretty much identical to board cross (and tbh 4 cross, on mt bikes) so I can't see it being any less close.

Yeh, i sad "close" but i didnt really mean that.
I think i meant it wont be as unpredictable. In that the skiiers wont mess up or fall off as much as the snowboarders do. I dont think there will be as much changing of positions.
Looking forward to seeing what it's like tho.

Ah yeah, see what you mean, the skiiers are generally more controlled down the slope.

Is it me but the first two jumps just seem a little big for that part of the course?

And a pretty good final race.

Just watching the rest of the downhill I missed earlier now, my dream... Some people want to be footballers.. I want to do downhill. :D

A shame so many of our youth are soo obsessed with Football and some of the morons who play the game.

The downhill racers are god like.

They are, so impressive and strong. Just crouch for a couple of minutes and it burns massively, they do all that on a massively bumpy course with massive g's in some of the corners!

I guess it could be classed as one of the original extreme sports and why the winter olympics are so much better than the summer ones. :p

Got to say I actually admire Herman Mayer, spent his life at 80+mph, massive crash on his motorbike and told never skiing again, then he goes on to win loads of races a year later. Compare that to a footballer who stubs his toe and has to take months off...

Agree. A lot of these winter sports guy seem as hard as a very hard thing.
One of the guys doing the boardercross was riding with 3 broken ribs which he did just a couple of weeks ago.
Thought i heard the commentator on the downhill saying that one of them was skiing with his wrist in a cast? (not sure i heard that right tho)

Either they are tough blokes or a bit crazy (or both :D)

Yeah, although that was another race, not this one.

They are mental though, but having said that you have to be a bit mental to be going down slopes at 90mph on a (couple of) plank(s) of wood and plastic. I find 50mph pretty frightening in a reasonably straight line. :o

Just stopping at those speeds is excrutiating and requires skill!

That's fast enough tbh :D
Most i'v ever done is 44.4mph and that was scary enough. I'm pretty much just holding on at that speed and dont really have much control. Can't even imagine what 90mph would be like - need some big balls to do that.

I watch that and feel proud.

The shot of him at the top with the crowd at the bottom made me realise that you need serious balls to do that, probably the same size as the downhill racers.

Yet, the old git Olympic elitists snipe him down at any opportunity.

It used to be about the taking part.... I think the guy is awesome.

I hit 51.4 last week and over 50 on a couple of occasions that week generally just down the last bit of a hill. I think "I'll start from here" and then go for a bit then decide to slow down slightly as i'm going to fast, then speed up again and slam on the brakes. :o :p

I have plenty of control (or at least I think I do), just not the nerve, so I slow down just in case there is a bump. If it's nice and sunny and i'm up early enough I think i'll try and hit 60 next time, but i'll make sre it's on a freshly groomed piste. There's nothing better than looning down a perfect piste at 30+ with the earphones in at first lift! :D
