Your favourite and least favourite comedians

Russell Howard
Chris Addison (great in The Thick of It, otherwise poor)
Forgot these two. Russell Howard tries to be funny but thinks that being an idiot will mean he's funny.

And Chris Addison I've only ever seen on HIGNFY and have never been impressed with him; seems quite cocky for someone who isn't funny.

I don't know if anybody else feels similar, but I can't really get into stand up comedy, it rarely really makes me laugh. It's quite annoying, going to a stand up gig or watching a DVD with everyone splitting their sides laughing and yourself just going "Urrr.. Yeah, har har har!" If anyone feels the same way, but has some sweet comedians to recommend, that would be awesome!

I find stand-up far too boring, the format is bland and predictable. It's as bad as watching a repeat showing of "The Comedians" from the seventies.

I suppose the type of comedy I prefer is somewhat silly/imaginative that doesn't leave a bad taste in the mouth (spare me the "right-on" offensive material I'm not 13 any more). Harry Hill's TV Burp is quite watchable in that sense.

Can't really list who I really loath since I'm not a comedy junkie and therefore probably avoid the worst of the industry.

Silly/Imaginative?

You need some Ross Noble in your life, my friend. :)

Sean Lock as said earlier is very hit and miss stand up but he is amazingly funny on QI and other panel shows.

Ricky Gervais my least favourite, including The Office, which I thought was rubbish but most people loved it....

Other dislikes: all the comedians on Mock the Week (simple mans QI). Can't stand that program. It's just not funny.

Ross Noble makes me laugh, he has a particularly genius Stephen Hawking joke....

Favs - Lee Evans, Jack Dee, Dennis Leary, Rich Hall

Hates - Russell Brand, Ricky Jervais, Eddie Izzard & anything to do with Never Mind the Buzzcocks..!!

Sean Lock's standup is hit and miss, but he's an absolute genius at the panel shows

This, went to see 8 out of 10 cats being recorded once, he was hilarious; his stand up, not so much. (It was S7E14 btw, with the bit about MJ :D).

Like:
Adam Hills: Staple to the forehead joke made me hyperventilate.
Dara O'Brian: Just genuinely funny
Milton Jones: Last two weeks worth of MTW one liners put him up here for me.
Ed Byrne: Terrorists on a plane
Stewart Francis: His routine of Apollo this year, only about 8mins worth or something.
Rich Hall: Meeting the Queen
Rhod Gilbert: Always thought he was shouty but Buzzcocks made me revisit him.
John Bishop: Just seems like a really nice bloke, quite clever as well.

All the others are a bit meh. I can't say there are many I really hate as they have all coaxed a laugh or two out of me.

Whilst talking about comedy this last weeks "Lines you would like to see..." from MTW was the best it's been for a while.

Are people aware that comedy exists outside of TV comedy panel shows? It seems sometimes that there are endless theads dedicated only to those who have been on Live at the Apollo, MTW or some of TV panel show.

I don't mean to be stuck up poncy comedy nerd but it gets a bit tiring of reading "I Hate/Love Russell Howard/Frankie Boyle/Peter Kay/Jack Dee/Ricky Gervais on MTW/8 out of ten cats/HIGNFY".

And are some people aware (specifically you steveh_monkey) that most peoples only way of seeing stand up comedy regularly is on the telly box or youtube?

It may not be the best medium and we may not get to see some of the more obscure comedians but it is the most accessible way of getting some comedy in our lives.
