RX8 > ?

And why would you say that? i think it is the most fairest comparison you will get, stock for stock. Same driver track and conditions. Unless you know something i don't

Well for a start it's widely believed that it's not always the same driver

It's not the same driver at all, and if the TG track is as useful for comparisons as you think it is, then... actually its irrelevent because:

Mazda RX8 1.31.8
BMW M3 1.25.3

Miles quicker. Infact the only car the RX8 matches around the TG test track is... an automatic BMW 5 Series diesel.

Just a quick google bought this up http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/powerlaps.shtml

Porsche 911 Turbo 1.31.0
BMW 760Li 1.31.2
Vauxhall VX220 turbo 1.31.3
Vauxhall VXR8 1.31.3
New Audi TT 1.31.4
Honda NSX Type R 1.31.6
BMW M3 1.31.8
Nissan 350Z 1.31.8
Mazda RX-8 1.31.8
BMW 535d 1.31.8
BMW 130 1.31.9

Actually, looking at those times, they do seem rather retarded. I mean, a 911 turbo is only 0.9sec quicker than a BMW 130. Just doesn't sound right  also there is only 1 wet lap on that list.

I just took it off the TG site as well, navigating via topgear.com (Took some finding). M3 was 1.25. But yea, the point I was going to make before I found the M3 was miles quicker was that its full of stupid results like a 911 Turbo being only 0.2 seconds quicker than a 7 Series.

0.9 is a considerable margin at Dunsfold but obviously it should be a lot more. The 996TT lap was done on a drenched circuit.

edit: E46 M3 is 1.31.8 in the dry, seems slow.

There probably cheap cos the engine is dying... My engine died on mine 6 weeks ago. It had hardly any compression in rotar 1 and not much more in rotar 2, both apex seals and side seals failed. The car has always been well looked after and oil check daily and only has 43k etc..

Total bill for rebuild was over 3.5k for the engine new spark plugs £140 , new starter motor over £300 . Good job i took 2 years warranty when buying it or i would have been screwed! MPG i was getting was 16-18mpg no matter how or where i drove it.

Will i buy another? No

Would rather have an RX7, more power and engine seems to last longer!

Doesn't sound like the engine was in good nick if that was your MPG. My rex runs ~330bhp and I can still get ~22mpg if I want....and I have 2 turbos ;)

£140 for sparkplugs? You got royally screwed with that. Plus that's an expensive rebuild as well. Sounds like you did a lot of damage to the engine for it to cost that much.

Dropping my rotary experience in..... Rx7s are a lot less reliable because of the turbos. It's rare to see more than 60k on a stock engine and rebuilt ones tend to last even less than that. The rx8s however will do more like 100k but
many have gone prematurely because of problems
with the oil supply in earlier models. Mazda have rectified this in the r3 model but the trouble is once the damage is done from rubbish lubrication they are a ticking time bomb. Btw one of my mates works full time at a rotary specialist and I've had three rx7s in the past so do have experience in this field.

Which rotary specialist does your mate work for?

60k is average for stock cars, many go longer than that.

most likely he will be working for pip at WGT since thats the only rotary tuner in the midlands, expensive place!!

Right...*weighs up the cost of buying an RX8 and dumping a Mazda 3 MPS engine in..*...why didn't Mazda consider doing this :(

also because all rx mazdas have been rotary, its one the reasons it has its name and its heritage
