Scariest movie you've seen

When I was very very young, I watched the original Excalibur which burned itself into my memory!

And then watched House of 1000 Corpses when I was 14ish, that scared the living **** out of me

IT scared me too when I was younger, I remember the silly ending ruining the film, and I've been too scared to buy the DVD of it :p

beep beep Ritchie!

The book is soooo much better. I too remembered being terrified by the film as a kid, bought the DVD a few years ago and it was totally lame. Then read the book and highly recommend it, it's a world apart from the movie and the ending is completly different!

The 1962 film I assume? If you haven't seen the 1981 BBC TV series, it's well worth a watch - You can find all 3hrs of it online...

Yeah, IT was another that scared me, although I was a bit older when I saw it.

I remember Demon Seed freaking me out as a kid. I had to bin my old zx spectrum in case it tried to smash my pasty after that. I watched it again recently and thought it was awesome :)

"I can't touch you, Susan. I can't touch you as a man could. But I can show you things that I alone have seen."

Not much scares me these days as far as films go.

i quite enjoyed the jap one missed call
the japs are definitley the best horror guys. although i watched the japanese dolls house * i think it was called* and that sucked big style

original version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for me, that movie goes beyond scary into the realm of disturbing and uncomfortable, for me it's not entertaining, just dam disturbing!

Gotta agree with you there. Definately the creepiest horror film ive ever seen.

Saw Rec quite recently, thought that was pretty good too.

Imo theres too many films out there that just arent scary and go over the top with gore to try and compensate (im looking at you Saw 2-6). Theres also films that just seem funny because they are so bad/cheesy, notably Exorcist and Blair Witch Project.

*smack* *smack* *smack*

Let me guess? A teenager? (Or good as)

Got me there! 19, but i must have been 12-13 when i saw those films. But i still stand by my opinion. I find the Exorcist hard to take seriously, parts like the girl spouting obscenities, spasming on the bed, the head turn, vomitting. Its all way too over the top it comes across as slapstick to me. Blair Witch was a very different film, main reason i didnt like it was the constant swearing and overall bad dialogue, not only did it bring the tone of the film down, it meant i didnt particularly like the main characters so i found my self not caring when they started dying.

I've seen the Exorcist twice, both times at the cinema. The first time, the film really distubed me! REALLY DISTURBED ME!

The second time, was a late night showing, with lots of drunk/merry teenagers in there, no doubt taking their girlfriends along to show how butch (unscared) they could be etc etc... The atmosphere was dreadful, and the viewing empty and a waste.

I guess, a lot of how these affect you is what the atmostphere is like when you watch it. Laughing at it with your mates, or sitting there all by yourself in a dark house...

Blair Witch for me is an outstanding bit of film making, except for the end. The acting is spot on, as most of the time it comes across as genuine...

I went to see The Exorcist when it was first released in 1973 and being a 'born again Christian' at the time it had a profound effect on me.
No other horror film has come close to that and of course now being an atheist and unbeliever of anything paranormal, all horror films (including The Exorcist) are a joke.

Odd... I'm an atheist too, but still find 'bump in the night' films can still give me serious heebeejeebies! I guess, in the back of my mind, that little voice whispers, 'what if your wrong!' :)
