Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

I'm getting one in a few months when I get back from the hot sandy place (hopefully it will have been updated by then)

a place where people bid has current gen new MBP 17" going for about a grand. That's some bargain. But depends on what's coming out I guess (maybe) I would love an i5 and keep it for 5 years etc, but I suspect you'll be looking at 1.5-2 grand probably .. Are the prices of the previous gen likely to drop when the new ones come out? Just need to wait and see I guess. So many factors here. And I keep thinking damn over a grand for a nice mac, and comparing it to PC equivs. You can get a 17" UXWGA 4GB / i7 dell for about 900 new. If it's just sitting on your desk 99% all the time maybe that might be better.

Sorry, but you're simply not going to get a new current gen MBP 17" for anywhere near £1000!

No chance of BD drive support I guess ;)

ps3ud0

I can't see Apple ever implementing Blu-Ray to be honest. I'd like to see it but the minor restlessness they'll face now by not going with Blu-Ray will be long forgotten if the iTunes Store establishes itself as one of the main players in the digital download era. That era is probably further away than Apple would like but they're trying to force it.

Look at the hoops that Microsoft had to jump through to get a "trusted path" for the unencryted blu ray output ... all the stuff with tilt bits in the drivers etc... I can't see Mac OSX EVER supporting Bluray playback.

They look legit but they are not the current gen Macbooks.

Oh ok. Previous gen ? Does that price 'look about right' then? Is there anywhere where I can find out which is which, I keep seeing model numbers like MA926/B and stuff is there a definitive list of these to make at least finding the right one easier?

When browsing i find it incredibly difficult to know how much they should be worth

Also, if they put a BD in the MBP then there's less chance of being able to sell you films over iTunes.

I'd prefer to have 1080p in all its glory. But Apple would prefer to sell me content through iTunes.

And how long would it take for a proper 1080p movie to download... about 15-25Gb (excluding extras)... I would have to plan my movie viewing about a week in advance :D:D:D

I don't really know how much old Macs are worth. Sorry.

If you want to find out what the latest Macbooks look like then take a look on the Apple Store. Wikipedia have model numbers for all the Macbook Pros, present and old - link

Now that is my kind of network.... I thought that itunes only gave you a very short period of time to watch the movie. ....Sorry getting off topic.

It's not amazing. I usually get 9MB/s download speeds though, so can download 1GB in just under 2 minutes. iTunes gives you 48 hours to watch your movie after the first play I think?
