A late night talk show UK v US

The thing I like about US shows is they have some great sketchs, we get some camp idiot or somebody who knows it all talking a lot of crap.

Do they have as many comedy panel shows (like mock the week and have I got news for you) or even things like QI?

Maybe that's why? We have a far better sense of humour. ;)

Parky > all

I miss parky. :(
If its even possible, we need to find another and pronto.

I think Stephen Fry would be interesting to see as a talk show host.

I've said this for a while now.

I think they're more successful because they are more active/energetic & bigger population + scope. Which is what wossy does. Not my style, prefer more serious interviews that dont plug a new movie etc too hard.

I don't mind either style really if the presenter's good. Ross is a fool, he's not funny at all.

parky was bloody terrible! he never asked any serious questions and allowed the guest to dictate the pace, he was deeply dull and really out of touch.

Does anyone remember the talk show Jeremy Clarkson did? Think it was just called Clarkson actually?

I seem to remember that inbetween the chats with various guests he put Wales in the bin, found out what happens when you suck up petrol with a vacuum cleaner and how to make a bazooka using a waste paper bin, hair spray and a turkey! lol

Yeah, he also had a different 'recipe' for microwave destruction each week.

In regards to the original OP question, bare in mind just how many daytime chat shows we have in the UK.

- This Morning
- GMTV
- Breakfast
- The Wright Stuff
- Loose Women
- Live from Studio 5
- The One Show

You can already see that there are more than enough chat shows with celebrity guests on our TV already. You also have to factor in that we are quite unique with our television services with a PSB and remits that have to be adhered to by all broadcasters. The reason most of these shows are on during the day, is that fascination with celebrities which is the crux of what chat shows are... celebrity self-promotion is watched by housewives. Sorry if that sounds sexist, but that's the way it is.

I personally would much rather watch a film, documentary, drama or something more interesting in the evenings than listening to someone interview somebody trying to promote themselves.

You also have to look at the fact that when a big network in the US does well with a talk show, the other networks are then trying to mimic this by creating their own. The fact that there are so many isn't necessarily a fair indication that it is what the public wants.
