And even that is huge overkill.

You say that, but my new PC cost just under £2,000 and I certainly wouldn't call it high end. I even had to use a few budget parts (Antec 300, GTX260 etc etc).

£4,000 needs to be spent on something decent which will last a good while.
Ok, let me rephrase that: For just the base-unit, £2k is more than enough = a decent system now & 1-yr down the line. The rest, you could go crazy & spend it on monitor/s, peripherals, etc as the above specs show.

the only way I could spend so much would be on 3 x 30" screens, at least that way it will still be worth something in 12 months and actually be more than 1% better than a rig 1/2 price.

you aren't getting the best of the best for £4K.. there's better and even if you get the best stuff it will be beat foreseeable future.. so why go overkill unless you're a rich mug.

I just looked on the Apple site, thats the only choice of G Cards (upto 4 of them)

Still a maxed out spec Mac is over £12K

In fairness to Apple, they'll let you get a 4870 in there :p

Might as well get the rig with a single GT120, replace it with an OcUK 5970 then punch oneself in the face for buying a stupidly priced apple-made behemoth of fail :p

oh and replace the hard drives with SSDs while we're at it ;)
