New Kitchen - Pricey Stuff

Well my parents kitchen cost £12billion, it exists in the Nth dimension, you can literally never fill the freezer up and the cupboards have portals to habitats containing elves that grow all their food for them. There are even pixies that clean the kitchen when everyone is asleep.

It's great but it should be for that price.

I hate liars, pixies don't even exist :D

Paid £5k for mine from a local firm who were superb, price included all stripout, fitting, lighting, electricals, plumbing, tiling, tiles and the cooker/hob/extractor.

5K is a good price - why have the microwave at kiddie height though? Or are you a midget/planning on selling to midgets?

£4-5k seems a lot for chipboard or mdf laminated units. If that price includes a good quality oven/hob & dishwasher then great. If not then I'm going to get shock should I ever want a kitchen installed.....

The kitchen is from Ikea, the missus has hand picked all the units, and done all the measurements herself, and she has done all the leg work herself in getting quote's to do all the work needed.

So far the break down of the cost

Kitchen units (dishwasher included) £1400
Range cooker with Hood £995
Building work £500
plasterer £120
Sparky £400
Fitter/Plumber £495

Seems like a good price. Next door neighbours got quote 35k for theirs, all our houses are the same size and whilst the kitchen is a decent size, its not overly massive.

Hahahaha :D

I fitted the white goods myself (including knocking one of the units out to make space). I then replaced all the unit doors and her indoors redecorated and will be tiling the floor soon.

Cost around £300 not including the white goods. Looks *almost* like a new kitchen.

We will be replacing it all for a brand new one in around five years but then again we have no plans to more out.

The kitchen is from Ikea

Thing to watch with the Ikea units is they're deeper than normal. You might need to warn your plumber about it as they fit right back to the wall, no service space behind them, so the plumber will need to run your pipes under the unit bases and up or you'll be cutting into the back of the units everywhere.

Just fitted out our utility room with the Ikea cabinets though, pretty pleased with the quality, had to make a couple of trips for scratched doors etc though so thoroughly check it if you can.

My parents paid the best part of 30 grand for their kitchen.

It's all wooden crafted, hand made and has a tonne of marble in it, looks stunning but I expected it too look nice for that price.

You can see when the kitchen finished before, it's that little bit of wall just after the door on the right.

Boiler, water, gas and electric were totaly redone and new celings and external window added.

plaster and 1st coat of paint done while empty, also added flooring and gas for hob (the pipe sticking out the floor)

About 4k inc lots of hard work but not inc the woodburner.

^^ Stunning The blue. Are you a professional or just good at DIY? I did some of my bathroom but made several hundred mistakes along the way.

P.S. cover the breaker box :p.

:D lol'd

Goliath that does look really nice :)

I didn't know you could get a kitchen looking that nice for that little to be honest, I'd heard and seen the adverts from Kitchen people but had also read that they do a very poor job.

Edit, that's quite the transformation in the pictures above

Would put together some pics of when we had an extension done and all the work on the kicthen and decorating we did, but I don't think Robbie G would like that :)

Failing that get down B&Q and get them to design yours (for free), then take the design to another company or just buy the carcasses, and assemble yourself. We've been quoted ~£6k for everything (induction hob, dishwasher, oven, microwave and extractor) but managed to shave it down to £5k by getting the appliances ourselves, and price matching.

Kitchen is 8m x 4m, so pretty decent size.

Just picked a good local firm (actually a husband and wife team, she does the design & product selection and he fits/plumbs/rewires etc - they even send her mum round once it's finished to clean it from top to toe :p) based on recommendations and testimonials. Had some stupid quotes from the high street companies, Magnet were starting at £12k before you even go for the "soft-close" drawers & doors and other nice bits

Mmm My parents really splashed out on the kitchen, as they both enjoy cooking and it's a very big room. We had a local (ish) firm (based in Derby I think) who came and were really top about everything, measure up and then cut really nice wood and marble to fit, and then came and put everything in / fitted it. Have lots of little touches that really make it quite stunning.

I'd heard really bad things about Magnet, my Dad did some reading about the big kitchen firms before he opted for the local people.

They had a random old man (think it might of being one of the mens dad) come and do all the wiring and fitting a few little lights! :)
