Yeah thats such a crap way to make extra money out of their 58** series. Hoping
a certain site will keep there 5850's low in price when they come back into stock :/

Unless you take into account the exchange rate and also their buy price. They may have no choice - they are considerably cheaper than some of their competitors.

In stock 5850 cards have gone up by £30, they have already bought them in weeks a go so this price hike is related directly to the joke card that is the 5830.

Whilst £200 wasn't a good price for the 5850 at launch, it was in relation to the 5870's price of £300, seems like now they are trying to restore price parity across all of the 58xx range.

200/250/300 for 5830/5850/5870

Come on Nvidia!

To be honest, what this launch has done is rehighlight the exceptional value the HD5770 is considering it's performance to price

Although I probably shouldn't say it too much, or else they'll add another £30 to the HD5770 prices too...

I checked a competitor yesterday for 5850's; they where all out of sock... now today they have plenty of all brands of 5850's at + £30-£40 what they previously where... That's really dirty; and it's not like they just got new stock in with their 5830's, because the 5830's are still pre-order only.

It basically looks like a lot of retailers where holding back 5850's they did have in stock to raise demand and price to force a price point for the 5830 to come in at.... It's not just OcUK, but it is really bloomin' dirty.

From where I'm sitting it looks more like the retailers have pre-ordered this stock - gotten delt to with their buy price and realised that if they don't sell the 5850s higher then they won't move the 5830s. Instead they are hiking the price of the 5850s so they can clear out their 5830 stock. I'd imagine once they are gone the 5850s will drop back down again.

Its irrelevant, this kind of market manipulation by manufacturers and/or retailers should not be possible if there were some decent level of competition.

It sucks, and i for one will not play their dirty little games, i simply will not purchase a new gfx card whilst at the same time as being asked to bend over and take it up the...you know what.

To hell with them... :mad:

You could be right, but I'd be surprised if many people bought a 5830 at this price rather than just getting a 5770, and so they won't shift anyway.

And I'd personally never recommend anyone pay £250 for a 5850. I thought they were overpriced at £200.

Would just mean prices are likely to stay blaoted for some time to come.

Yeah the 5830s should've come in at £170 max, better at around £165. I personally don't think that the £210 price point of the 5850s is excessive - £190 would've been a bit more wallet friendly but it seems about right when you look at the performance of the things.

I'm just glad I bought one when they were at £215 - they've gone up £20 in a day...

Can not help the global ecconomy I am afraid this is new stock new prices and can not be helped. Once things improve with the dollar prices will fall.

I have found 1 e-tailor that has drop the price of one make of 5850 by about £10 to £223.
