*** Supreme Commander 2 ***

I'm okay with it as a whole. My issues with it are 1) the speed which can be increased

and 2) The way resources are required to start build queues, this includes it pausing repeat build cycles when resources are running low. want to queue up a whole base and let my commander get on with it whilst i bother with important things like picking my nose waiting for my ac100s and rain awesome down.

On that note i feel exp build speeds and research points are far to quick to aquire, but i'm okay with the low level experimentals. That and i'm so glad to see the back of build adjacency, such a pain.

why didn't they just improve forged alliance ?

more realistic looking units
improved graphics
better engine
sort balance issues
add in some new units like they had so many in TA
add possibly another race or two
better AI
more music
take away commander teleport(anywhere) ability...he teleports to enemy commander with lazer and its i die and you die...cheap draw tactic.

different modes of play...something like 8 ppl start a game in random positions and you are teamed with 1 other at random. would be fun trying to support each other from different parts of the map.

[optional] some kind of tech tree promotions where you choose a certain path to perform better for the role you're playing in the team.

tbh they could have even threw some dinosaurs in there.....giant T-rex dawn of war style (not serious:p).

i'm really not sure why they have done what they have, adding fog when zooming out seems silly but nerfing the experimentals as much as they have really is taking away something that made forged alliance so great. i guess sneaking an early monkey lord into the back of someones base isn't quite going to make them scream "**** I NEED HELP ...SEND ANYTHING YOU HAVE OR IM FINISHED"

But there's the cybran-rex in the game!

Anyhow the deal with experimentals is that they fit into the game tiers aswell. So you get distinct mini experimentals and end game experimentals too. I was enjoying the mini expoerimentals as it meant the battles had focal points within the huge swarms of stuff going on. Will give it another playthrough tomorrow to make some better decisions/opinions on it though.

Current verdict is Forged Alliance was already awesome, and this isn't quite as good, mods should change that we can hope.

Don't blame us console users for this game bombing. Just because the game is out on the things is in no way to blame. As I've said before, Taylor knows the power that can be tapped from PC's so it makes no sense at all given SC1 and FA's massive success to gimp the game on the PC.

I just played a few bits of the tutorial early in the morning before going to work and my fear was confirmed. I can't seem to zoom out very far, and the visuals look even worse than C&C3. That QA computer giving me the stupid advertising blurb was annoying as hell.

I'll hold off my proper opinions until I play the campaign later tonight.

Strategic zoom is still in the game and as glorious as ever, only in the tutorial is it disabled for a short while.

having a problem with this demo, everything is stuttering graphics, units, its totally unplayable for me ... don't see it been my pc, any suggestions? my specs are below

I had a feeling this game was going to take a lot of influence from Demigod in terms of a more focused RTS rather than Epic Scalz!!1!, which is a shame because I did enjoy the first games massive armies and bases. Might try the demo out though before I right it off.

Cheers. I almost burst into tears whilst messing with the tutorial only to see a completely useless zoom feature. Need more demo opinions people!

okay heres my review of demo, I have played it through completion.

I have a e8500, GTX 216 , 4mb and Windows 7 64 bit.

Playing at a res of 1900*1200 it run smooth as silk on high settings.

Game itself I enjoyed, had 100's of units on screen doing their thing and required a lot of multi tasking etc, I wasn't a great fan on SC1 but will be keeping my preorder from Game, I have just lost two hours on the demo and enjoyed every second!

The zoom worked great for me, so don't get that comment, also will mention I played on normal difficulty and it seemed just about right.

Havent tried the demo, will likely just keep pre-order as these games have such a massive and demanding following that any issues will be forced to be changed from users.

I think i'll pass and wait for it to come down. Its taken a giant step to becoming yet another generic RTS.The '100s' of units engaging feels more like you needed that many because they're just weak as hell rather than having an all out war.

There are some nice changes, but i really hate the resources system. Researching is also lame gimmick. All you do is spam research centre's which completely defeats the point of having to choose carefully and upgrade over time. The units engaging doesn't feel remotely like it used to, it just seems like they're using pea shooters against each other.

I tried the demo earlier and I wasn't that impressed. It runs much better then SC1, but I'm just not liking some of the changes they have made.

As others have already said why couldn't they have just polished and built upon what they already had? Such as making it run better, new units, new campaign, better balancing etc. I know they have done some of the above, but I'm just not liking how they've done it.

My main gripe is the resource system and the research. Resources were fine as they were and the research system is kinda pointless and crap when all you need to do is spam research centers, I much prefered the tier system. Research is fine when done the same as Starcraft where you have to spend resources and wait for it to complete, but I just don't like this 'points' system where the research is activated instantly.

Having tried the demo, I actually quite like it. The reduced number of units is fine and I can live with the streamlined resource system. It still has the large scale battle feel that is missing from the likes of C&C and SC. From the demo it is definately a purchase from my point of view.

And it has giant robotic t-rexs.

After playing it through I too felt this. The only actual reason you want a large army is so that you can concentrate fire and kill things in a decent amount of time. Even with 10 subs against 1 destroyer it took a fair old while to take out :S

And what is with the "Heavy" defensive turrets, they are truelly pathetic, especially the AA one.

Just a point of view from someone who has been fed up with RTS games for the past few years, and didn't like the original SC. I actually like it.

I like the overall feel of it, though yes, there are a few slight issues that have already been pointed out (some dodgy textures in places, and researching tech provides instant results which seems a bit odd). SquareEnix need to lend the devs some character modellers as well.

I'll echo a point as well, as it seems to keep cropping up - you can zoom all the way out. You have to wait until the tutorial lets you.

It's also nice to see an RTS with a large number of units that actually maintains a proper framerate.

Some of those mechs reminded me that I really want someone to make a new MechWarrior game. :(

Oh, and I used to love Total Annihilation, SupCom sucked IMO. I gave up after about 30 mins playing.

I noticed that as well, but I'm guessing it's because the research tree for it was locked so they were underpowered.

Or there could be a better version such as the tier 2 point defenses in SC1 that you unlock later in the campaign.

Ok just finished the demo.
I don't like the new art style. The UEF units have gone from earth like weaponry to remote control lego, but I can live with it!
It's hard to judge the research system after two levels but it seems a little intrusive. I am not sure it's something I want to do on EVERY multi-player match.
I liked the old SC1 economy but I can see why they changed it. However they might have just moved the micro-management from the economy battle to the research battle instead of to the battlefield.
Performance was fine, but then again there wasn't enough units to test it.

Nonsense! Get Forged Alliance and put it on hard. Great fun.
