*** Supreme Commander 2 ***

Its hard to judge without the full tech trees but they seem to have removed so much and added so litle.

The Experimental Units are basically tier 3, not super powerful tier X weapons like they should be and they seem pretty underwhelming. The whole warfare seems tame. If i sent in 100 air units (Gunships, Bombers and Air Superiority) in TA or SC it'd be a massive fight with units all over the place and rockets, bombs and various other projectiles going everwhere. In this things just died with very little activity and it really does spoil it. I understand that we're missing Tier 2 units (i can only hope... but the Research Tree really didn't show anything like a tier 2 factory) but the game doesn't feel like SupCom.

Oh, and I used to love Total Annihilation, SupCom sucked IMO. I gave up after about 30 mins playing.

I'm sorry but 30 minutes play is not enough for a fair evaluation. I loved TA, and it took some time for Sup Com to overtake my love of TA but SC:FA was the best RTS we've had in a long time.

Sup Com 1 (not Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance) was continually patched - credit to GPG. It's gameplay changed a great deal from Beta, Launch to the last build. Forged Alliance altered so much that it was a different game - new ballances, different ecomomy and new speed.

The only bad thing about the Supreme Commander games was the lobby setup that simply did not work 100% of the time - the zero ping issue.

Oh this is terrible news..... gonna have too hope starcraft 2 doesnt disapoint.

This reminds me of star trek armada, when the 2nd came out was like wtf they done!

Well we've yet to see the full game yet, so there is still hope :p

(Armada II wasn't that bad, just..maybe nowhere near as good as Armada :D)

Tang... do you realise the stupidity of using SC2 as an abbreviation for Starcraft 2 in a thread about SupCom2?

Starcraft 2 looked like it was going down the same toilet every other RTS is so i wouldn't get your hopes up. SupCom 2 has just lost all the feeling of a full scale war.

Not sure what to make of it after playing the first bit of the campaign encountering the smaller experimentals.

The campaign ingame 'videos' are as pants as ever, the unit visuals look utter garbage vs FA and I just cba to waste anymore hours tonight playing it so I'll play the remaining campaign maybe tomorrow.

I think its fine yes its not as complex as the first two games seems much easyer but still an rts.

Map wise they were small but this is only a demo not reatil so end game and muiltplayer might have bigger maps.
Read somewhere that map go up to 20x20km now max not as big as the first game.

Only problem I found is game speed for some reason would not allow me to change it :/

BTW look wise seemed fine on par with old game just units are more bulky and Yes I am running it on max settings at 1920x1200 and its smooth

I found it rather good, its not TA or SupCom. Its similar but at the same time different which I rather liked, lots of units missing so its hard to tell how the game will be later on. I rather liked the demo maps but that could be a case of best baps out.

Played the demo a couple of times tonight and quite enjoy it...

Played TA to death but always hated the micromanagement (i was useless at it!) and never played SupCom (was more of a C&C player) and then not playing any RTS for the past 5 or 6 years its good to get back into it :)

That was fun! Can't wait till this arrives next week.

Not quite the same as the old one, but there's promise there. Also it runs rather well on my machine, perhaps even better than the first!

Played the demo.... cant get C&C clone our of my head when I see the graphics and limited unit selection.... very disappointing!

PLayed demo..

what have they done to it.... Cybran... Yellow!!! UEF.. So bright a blue they had to paint yellow decals on their units.. Its like lego, so many primary colours. Can't set units in a formation, its only "go there and sit". The story seems, bad, insofar as what we see, its just not Supreme Commander.... maybe "just normal" commander, or "below par" commander but from what was such a Grand Scale, Epic RTS its lost so much of everything...

Dumbed Down For Consolies...

:(

What is it with these developers, why do they not get it through their heads that new, shiny and different does not always equate to better? It's like they've just randomly gone and changed things for absolutely no reason.

Game feels pretty much like C&C now, but with strategic zoom and a half-working queue system - half the time I click somewhere it doesn't register. Even the strategic zoom is buggered now, because it feels like you're just going into some sort of map mode after a certain level of zoom.

Also what was wrong with the economy system in Supcom, that they had to change so drastically? I'm not going to go into detail here, because I'll end up writing an essay on how many different aspects of the gameplay it has affected. Essentially it has dumbed down the whole process and taken away control from the player since you can't focus your resources on what you want as everything is built at a fixed speed now (the upgrades simply changes these fixed values, nothing else). Combined with the fact that engineers appear to not be able to assist anything, it feels like the gameplay has regressed back to the old C&C style mechanics.

Sad to say this, but the game at the moment is looking to be a huge fail and they've literally destroyed a huge portion of what made SupCom and TA so unique and awesome. :(

*prays the demo is not representative of full game*
