Firefly - Still worthy of a watch?

Deffo. One of my all time faves. Everything about it is just spot on.

Without giving away any spoiler, Jubal Early was quality.

Not sure who is my fave character though, close call between three.

Serenity was a cracking film too. Kinda strange watching it after the series as you can see the huge budget increase in how it's filmed and what is in the film.

Such a good series / film that I'm going to have to grab them both on bluray now I have a player :D

And yea Castle really needs a UK network to pick it up >.< I'll import the darn dvds otherwise!

I've just started watching Firefly (not seen Serenity yet).

Kinda reminds me of Space: Above and Beyond for some reason - which is a good thing. Good mix of characters, and as a big fan of Adam Baldwin (through Full Metal Jacket and Chuck) its great to see him in this too.

Just seen "Jaynestown" which was fantastic.

Mudder: "To Jayne!!"
Crowd: "To Jayne!!!" *cheer*
Jayne: "To Me!!!"

:D

Definitely worth a watch and you can get it dirt cheap now as well
Amen. Got Firefly for Xmas and watched the whole series in pretty much one go. :p Can't understand why it was cancelled.

Would love to have Firefly on Blu-ray to complement my Blu-ray copy of Serenity. :) Can only find US imports and I've no idea on the region.

All Blu-rays are region free afaik, at least this is true for the ps3's blu-ray player:)

Your right about fox being retarded , I mean they showed the episodes in the
wrong order then wondered why people could not follow it.

And the reason why no other network picked it up , fox held the rights
and would not let anyone else continue with it , the gits :-(

Just watched Firefly last week for the first time. I didn't realise it was filmed/released 2002/2003 time. Honestly thought (from watching it) it was much newer than that.

Shame there will be no more. Fox is utterly retarded. Surely the suits must have watched it and then realised that they had made a mistake by canceling it and re-instated the show. And for no other Studio to pick it up... it just staggers belief.

Oh and if you want to have a successful series do not employ Summer Galu, hot as she is, she is clearly a kiss of death to any si-fi project.

Right, just done some research on whether the US/Canadian Firefly Blu-ray releases are region free/independent and I think they are.

I've compared the US and Canadian prices of Firefly on Blu-ray. The US version is US $55.49 which works out to about GB £36.52. The Canadian version is CA $39.99 which is about GB £25.02. Time to email Uncle Don and ask for a favour. :D

Leaving all the cult status behind, there were two or three episodes you could see them working on shoe string. The episode where they visit post office, everything from the market place through battle field is so low budget that it looks like an episode of venezuelan tele novela shot with one camera on one rotating set. It's topped only by battle scenes in final episodes of Jeremiah, where they already knew series were canceled and budget was gone and used 15 volunteers and one jeep for "civil war sweeping the nation" skirmish.

That said, Firefly remains a living proof that if small group of TV execs don't like programming, they can bring it down and sink it like a concrete brick regardless of viewing figures and support and there is nothing, anyone can do about it.
