If you haven't travelled you don't know jack...

I have a girl working for me, she's 19 and from a dodgy end of a dodgy UK city.

She eats only junk food, works an entry level job, spends her spare time playing Playstation in her room, and makes no effort with anyone.

I try chatting to her as much as possible, and we were talking about this trip im soon to go on. I asked her if she was planning anywhere... Nope.
Been anywhere?.... Nope.
Any desire to ever see the world? Anywhere other than here and home?... Nope.
To see cultures, worlds, ways of lives that will change the way you feel and think, experience all the planet has to offer?..... Nope.

To which she then replied
"Why would I want to all that when i've got everything I want here"?

The problem here is people have made the thread about me.

It was about the topic, not me specifically. I mean really... Did anyone actually read my post? Particularly the part where I mention other peoples opinions?

Congrats on the fail. :)

Is she good looking though?

Had she been into more middle class pursuits people would praise her for the rare ability to be content with what they've got.

Some people are very narrow minded culturally due to lack of experience and travelling might wake them up to that... but most averagely intelligent people have a fair idea.

I've travelled a bit but I wouldn't say I was any more enlightened for it.

I think she is trying to politely tell you to stop chatting her up and **** ***.

I agree with the motion to large extents. My friends who have travelled (for extensive periods) are more worldly wise and in many ways more open minded and mature than I am.

I look forward to exploring myself.

I'd say the same, but after visiting a third world country it made me more appreciative of the things I take for granted. Like internet access ;)

Absolutely not.

Ha, I thought the same. Still, shut me up and I went back to avoiding her

Ugly girl gamer. Here's everyone thinking they had to be hot lol

On topic. I don't consider myself too narrow minded. I haven't travelled as op says, Package holidays and a week in Italy with friends in a youth hostel is about as far as I've been, I find it gets harder to travel the later in life you leave it, It's hard to give everything up for a few months and go see the world. :(

Still I disagree with op, Maybe his ideas came into play more in the past! But we have a MASSIVE wealth of information at our finger tips now, I bet there are people who know more about a country than the op does and they may have never even been there.

you seem to have given out the opinion that student types going off to certain places etc and that your above them in some way.. so basically arrogance..

Everyone will experience things in different ways, all ways are equally valid.

i dont even understand what you mean by this, please explain

No kidding.

How about you re-write your post without taking me into consideration, and instead making a reply based on your opinions of the subject matter? Then you might have a point worth making? Rather than the usual forum "haha your rong" (sic) posts.

I'm sure if you have travelled then you are likely to know a bit more about the country you visited. Is that what you mean? It's only natural isn't it? But then, for example, I have no interest in learning anything about Cambodia, it doesn't appeal to me.

Or do you mean somethimg else? If so what exactly?

Where did your travels take you seek?

Is Jack living overseas now? Wish he'd let me know.

What is the difference between knowing Jack and not knowing Jack? It seems to be the same thing. :D

i never do that "haha your wrong" stuff, (and you should have known that by now, everyone does it to me all the time, do you see how it feels? like your actually talking to a wall) i was just telling you why people have focused on you

...............

travel a lot = more stories, and perhaps they would be more interesting stories... you would have experienced certain things? lets say -40 in alaska or feeling the sweat be sucked out of you in the desert, boiling your feet too.. and so you know how certain things feel like etc...

Sit there on google for 10 years and learn, you will know everything about the world, but you wouldnt have experienced it personally, for some things it doesnt matter

about culture, to me i dont notice it, i dont have a particular culture anyway, adapting for me is simple, and i dont think about it much, the people who keep going on and on about culture, i think are just insane, and all that comes to mind is a 18th century random posh english guy going to a random tribe somewhere and staring at them etc.

Ive studied human geography, been so many places, and after a while you get sick of people talking about culture..

Anyway ive quickly read what i just wrote, and it has just confirmed what i knew already its hard to describe what i think in words, words are not precise enough, everyone takes different meanings... mabye i can do better with VOIP
