All I can say is after installing a Crucial 64GB

The mechanical HDD (other than my WHS) is dead.

Its an odd feeling...

Speed, Silence, and not just boot....

Every app I click just appears in front of me.

Best 125 quid I have thrown at my PC ever...

Was wierd getting it out of the box too, So light and small and yet so powerful.

It felt almost fragile...But its the future for sure.

Easy

Argh, I really, really, really want one. But not at over £2 per gig.

Wake me up when I can fit Windows 7 on an SSD costing £50 or less :p

Nice one easy, i wanted an ssd drive for my os and games, put it off for the time being to get some water cooling goodies for my i7, once thats done i fancy two ssds in raid0, used to run 2 x 74gb 16mb cache raptors in raid0, performance was great, but the noise got on my nerves (and my hearing is terrible). My nephew has a 64gb kingston ssd drive running on a phenom II rig at 3.4ghz, waste of a good drive, im gonna steal it and stick it on a proper rig (my i7):D

Its so hard to decide everyones got a different opinion :( and after I think I've decided I cant work out if 80gb is enough and should I push for 128 :( BOO

Ive the same drive and could not agree more.... first time I opened the packaging I went whaaat its soooooo small .... but not on performance :) I use mine for O/S and a couple of games and what I loved was getting into the map on Bad Company 2 Beta before everyone else :)

Oh forgot to mention Ive picked up a second drive and Im going to give Raid 0 a try

luckily i bought the crucial 64gb just after it's launch for just £104 delivered, Its very nice, faster boot time, crazy fast shutdown (around 3secs in win7 for me), silent which is a MASSIVE plus. They completely screwed the firmware updates for the first few months but v1916 is a nice firmware. Using non-ssd pc's annoys me now, apps don't open as fast:(

guys is there any guides in installing these about? just bought one for putting w7 onto, but am getting confused with all the posts in here about trimming and aligning them and needing software running in the backround to manage it?

Hmm I just plugged my two in, installed Windows 7 and then installed the Intel SSD Toolbox (which I schedule to run every morning)

Job done :p

there is a tool called SSD Tweaker that does everything for you, all you need to do is run it.

cant remember where i got it from but im sure someone will be able to point you in the direction.

imo theres a lot of things in ssd tweaker which is defunct. page file ;write cache etc.

page file on the system disk is totally fine. in fact if you have a good ssd is quicker etc.

Win 7 should sort all the other things out for you. Have a check to see if write cache is enabled etc. Also check to see if defragger is off ; if it is then windows has auto-detected your SSD.

And of course make sure you have AHCI enabled and your alignment is correct.

SSD is best thing for my PC since multi core CPU's. I love my SSD and will NEVER go back to a harddrive for my OS.

Glad you like it.

As a headsup, I've got a 64gb drive, and after Windows 7 and all the essential apps are loaded on (Adobe Studio and Office in particular) you've got maybe 30gb left.

Which gives you room for either MW2 or WoW, but not both, curses.

agreed,

best, most worthwhile, value for money upgrade i have done for the past 5 years at least

good to hear you are enjoying yours, i trust you have the latest firmware etc

easy, out of interest, running in IDE or AHCI?

Got an Intel X25 80gb running W7 in my everyday PC which I've used since the start of this year. installed the OS on that & a 320gb WD Scorpio for my files. Running a E7400 at stock & its plenty quick enough for me. Only thing I want for it now is an ATi HD5**** but I cant decide which one as I don't want to game on it (got a more or less redundant rig for that) but I want the HD bitstreaming & Eyefinity. I wouldn't go back to a platter HD for my OS again that's for certain.
