Looking for somewhere that stocks these?

I've seen these about and I always wonder how easy it would be for a nibble footed theif to come up behind you with a knife, cut the strap and make off with it.

I think if they had a knife, they'd probably just mug you at knife point... :p

so you could either walk up behind someone, grab the camera, cut the strap and run away, a situation where the victim never see's anything but the back of the criminal and if you get caught its just theft.

OR, mug someone with a deadly weapon and they see your face?

I know what most criminals would do.

It's a good idea but I still don't think I'd use it on the street. weddings, parties etc would be ok though!

It's not about the strap really, it's about the way the camera is attached to it, and that you can move it freely along the strap without moving the strap itself. Not sure if that makes sense, if not, watch the video on the links.
Oh okay then, I didn't realise at first that it could move along the strap without having to move the strap itself.

Sorry guys but after some attempts to email the company again and not getting anything, I'm going to give up on trying to buy from them. I've caved in and just ordered one off eBay - came to a total of £40.47 delivered from the states. Mind you, it's an RS-2, with the newer Connect-R2 and Fasten-R2. Not too shabby and will do the job. Will feedback when it arrives :)

NB: The actual item cost under £25, so if there is any VAT, it'll be another fiver.

Bit of a thread revival here, but how have you found it?

I'm looking at getting the RS-4 for definite now and would like your opinion on the RS-2 :)

I find it very useful. I like the simple design of the RS2, with the little pouch on the shoulder, not too striking but still handy to keep a lens cloth or more. It is pricey for something that I could possibly make BUT the quality gives me more peace of mind when I hang over £1K worth of kit around my side.

I'll be bringing it to the meet, you can always have a try then.

I ordered one direct from Black Rapid in the end, so hopefully it will be here this week in time for the meet :)

Does it still work ok if you have a 2 strap backpack on?

Yup.
I do that all the time with my Crumpler backpack. I just wear the strap before my backpack and when I need to take the camera off, it's almost a quick snap off with the climbing hook thinggie. I don't feel the need to remove the strap all together.

I hope you've factored in the import duties e.t.c.?
Most US business don't like labelling their items as Gifts and ParcelForce e.t.c. likes charging an extra £8 (up to £25 by FedEx) on top of the tax as 'admin charges'!
