NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 GPU Box/specs

Very true. The 8800GT was a gem and especially at the price they launched it at. However, wasn't it just a "refresh" of a gpu which had been out for 2 to 3 years? Hope we don;t have to wait that long for a cracking low-mid range Fermi card ;)

replace 2-3 years with 11 months and you'd be right

Ultra-much silver plating?

Ultra-much? Juist sounds so... Chavvy for me, damn my friends.

Gay much is what they'd say. :p

Colorful iGame cards are for the Asian market, therefore the poor translation. I have 2 x 260 GTXs and they are great, very high spec with backplates and turbo overclock buttons.
The european cards won't have Ultra-much plating!

how long do you think we have to wait until after the release of their top card(s) before we see what low-midrange is released? as that's what I am more interested in - not the expensive power hungry beasts. I want something that is better than my 8800gtx but uses less power, on 40nm - with the possibility of going sli at a later date with ease (I have an sli mobo).

Probably be a while until we see this. Shame really.

lol at 42a minimum such epic fail

System load for a high end card. Connectors alone tells the tale, over 225w under 300w. Comparing older NV system requirements, then around 260W/21A. Whilst high compared to a 188W 5870 and disappointing for the process. Fail? Maybe, but not epic.

The 8800GT was the G92b refresh of the G80 core - The 8800GT came out 10 months give or take after the 8800GTX release.

:o It felt like two years. I can't beleive how time flies and I bought a 8800GT at lauch for £130 (I think). Since then I have had a 8800GTS, 4870, GTX260 216SP and a 5850.

It feels like I only had each one for a few months.

I would so laugh, if one had a HD5870 which say got 70 frame rates than was silly enough to believe Nv and brought this card for 400+ and it only did 75 frame rates for the same settings :p

plus you need two of the damm thing for surround vision

Well if your putting down the money for multiple 120Hz displays your probably not going to bat an eyelid at 2x high end GPUs :S

Well, what made ATI so attractive in the previous generation was that it was able to deliver cards that are comparable to nvidia's performance, but at a lower price.

But with the current generation ATI cards (anything above 5770) pricing so high, I would like to see what nvidia has to offer on performance vs pricing for the mid-range cards.
If nvidia manage to pull off with a longevity card like when they release 8800GTX for dx 10, it would definitely be a good thing.

Memory is a dreadful thing. 4870 launch price was $299 which is the same as the 5850. The gtx260 was $399 Only thing that has changed is that we don't get $2 to the pound anymore.

The 5850 is faster than the gtx285 which costs a lot more so yet again ATI are delivering cards which are comparable to Nvidia's performance but for much less money.

I was actually refering to 4850 was launched at around £130, 4870 around £180, 260 around £220, 280 around £300 back then.

fingers crossed that this is legit, and that Nvidias card will soon be released. i want a comparison to ATi's offerings before i take the plunge and upgrade..

Personally I'd call the HD4000/GTX200 series an exception to rule in terms of pricing as we had the perfect set of conditions for a great price war, with the pound being quite strong at the time also.

Maybe the performance improvement of the HD 5000 series isn't as good as it was when the HD 4000 series came out, but given the current circumstances I think AMD/ATi have priced their products pretty reasonably.
