PSN goes all Millennium Bug on us

Booted up my old American 20GB and it's working fine.....? Haven't changed any settings? It's got an old Firmware Version on there though, hasn't been used for a very long time.

Don't know if its been mentioned yet, but please go on Youtube and search for 'PS3 Error Code 8001050F Rage' :D

the fat guy ? i havent LOL so much in ages as i did at that earlier. what a hero he is

surely the very worst case scenario for this whole mess is sony sets the date on all its main servers to the 2001 one that these ps3 are at ? then they would be allowed to connect online ? or is it worse than that ?

Every non slim in the world is broken, it's not that simple otherwise people wouldn't be complaining :p

They can't even connect to the internet

Not every non-slim, most of the PHAT 80's 120's are fine, and the ones that are effected can connect to the net, but can't connect to PSN.

And also just in case people didn't know 'if' the system did require a FW update that can also be done even though the systems can't connect to PSN as the FW updates are not distributed via PSN, they can still connect to Sony's FTP sever that dishes out the FW update.

So what is the exact time it might be fine again as the clock goes to march 2nd, is it 24:00 hours locally or 24:00 GMT ??

The whole world will be holding its collective breath. Will be hilarious if Sony have to recall - first Toyota, now them.

The fall of the Japanese empire begins tonight. (well technically tomorrow if you go by their local time).

Toyota, Honda, Sony...as Bill Goldberg used to say "WHO'S NEXT!?!?"

Tbh it'd probably kill off the playstation brand. Sony still haven't broke even on the PS3 and this would make it nigh on impossible, let alone the damage to the brand name caused by the whole affair.

Might be a daft question but surely if this was a worldwide issue people in Japan etc have already passed midnight so we would know by now if this was resolved for them?

Or does it all revolve around when GMT gets to midnight?

The hardware clock in the PS3 runs on GMT, it's only the software clock that is affected by time zone. Everyone will find out at the same time.

From what someone posted earlier the system time is GMT. Not sure why that would be on a Jap console, but there you go. Should be midnight here for the whole world.

It's all based on the PS3's RTC (Real Time Clock) that is set to GMT, and then the OS adds/subtracts to that to match you time zone (I think), it's quite complicated tbh.
