Girlfriend spilled water on my PC, it's dead

claim on your contents insurance if you have it excess may be 50/100 but still better then forking out for it yourself get the insurance money then some 'sorry I messed up your pc' money of your misses and splash out... on a new pc?

you pay for insurance may as well use it.

Very unlikely that every component is dead.

Unplug it, dry it out for a few days, check if it works. If not, get hold of a compatible rig to test your components in til you find out what is salvageable.

dude just use this as an excuse to get a new comp!! she cant exactly moan at spendin the dosh cause it was her fault! and like others said if you got insurance then go for it, who cares about slight increase it what insurance is for (plus with the comparison websites these days should be able to get good deal)

but i would also test all components to see what you can save...

Hairdryers, from what i've heard, are probably not the best drying methods as they tend to blow the water further into the components and into awkward places. Vacuum cleaners are better aparantly.

Hmm, I would try the PSU on other parts
I wouldn't try that until it's been tested that PSU starts normally and outputs correct voltages.

Vacuum cleaners are better aparantly.
Vacuum cleaners can be very serious ESD generators so rule is to keep them farther away from sensitive low voltage electronics.
Safest is putting parts to dry somewhere where warmer air is circulated by natural convection.

I would wait till it drys all out & see if it works, if it does anyway . . . . then tell your girlfriend it's still broke & to cough up £600 !!! :p

Then sell your old kit on members market, then you could get a really decent PC for freeeeeeee!!! :D

claim on your contents insurance (if you have any), im an insurance assesor and i deal with claims like this, just phone up your insurers and BE HONEST, they will replace like for like or a near match to the existing! providing you have accidental cover on your policy :)

As said the extra on your house insurance premium isnt going to go up £600 minus your excess so I'd claim on that.

We had a laptop dropped down the stairs by my sister they replaced it with a newer better model (packard bell to acer) for the £50 excess and the insurance only went up by about £20 the following year

She did you a favour in one sense, i don't know what you got currently

also I don't think its worth splinting up over that

Girls and PCs don't often mix :D

Seriously do not take money from your GF, If you have good content's insurance use that, if not find out which component(s) are dead and just replace them yourself or maybe out of joint savings etc.

She could upgrade my ram anyday, i might let her do some overclocking too.

It appears it's dead as in permanently dead. She's been nicer than usual today so must feel guilty. Time for new PC then.
