Is the Canon 30D recommended for a beginner?

I'll have to go second hand but I've seen them as low as £100 with a lense on eBay.

Bodies I've got my head wrapped around and the jargon. I need to figure out lenses now, what would go well with a 30D? Price range for a lense could vary but probably £50-£100. Can't really spend too much. Tight budget yo.

Cheapest one that sold recently was £249... you do know eBay is an auction right? :p

lol.

There have been a couple around 200 but you'd be lucky to get one...

Basically you're not going to get a digital slr worth having for £150. Double the budget and you'll get something worthwhile.

Unless you're talking about a D30... in which case... do not buy..!

I do yeah. :p

Only 48 hours but I suppose prices may go kaboom by then.

Any other recommendations then chaps? The naming schemes are a bit all over the place in my head right now. :p

I guess it's totally out of my budget right now though. Another time in the future!

Maybe consider a different brand, Sony A100/200s and Olympus e410/420/500 etc. should be fairly cheap.

If 30Ds were going for £100 I'd have one as a spare.

It was just because it was the cheapest auction with some limited time left. :p

I might look into other brands.

Nothing wrong with a 30D and at there current second hand value they are a good entry DSLR

I agree, it would be a great camera for you - but probably not available for less than £250 as previously indicated. For less money, you could look at a s/h 350D, or perhaps a 400D if you can push your budget slightly. Both are lower in the range than a 30D, but both capable cameras to start with and for very reasonable money.

I picked up a mint D40 with kit lens for £140 from here, i think that is a great starter DSLR :)

I too would go for a 20D if you can't stretch to a 30D, I sold mine recently for £280 body only but it was minter than mint.

The reason being is it just feels more like a camera than the lower Canons such as the 300D 350D 400D etc, these are plastic body DSLRs. I knew if i'd bought a plastic body one I'd have sold it within minutes after holding a 30D.
