Ubisoft's New DRM Cracked In Under 25-Hours

DRM has never bothered me. I don't even know which of my titles has DRM and which doesn't. It's never caused me any grief whatsoever, and I am a legitimate user.

I just know that people are going mental about how awful DRM is because they can't install their game on their PC AND their LAPTOP AND their NETBOOK AND their Media-PC AND their other desktop simultaneously. Who wants to do that anyway? I can't install new car-mats in mine AND my wives' car simultaneously and you don't see anyone moaning about that ...

A PC is useless without an internet connection anyway so who cares if a few bytes is going in and out every now and again. Basically I've never had any issue with DRM because it has never caused me any fuss whatsoever*

And don't get me onto the problems I have with people stealing stuff effectively destroying the PC games market that I love .... :\

*Apart from something called 'starforce' which caused me some grief about 3 years ago on 'Dirt 1'.. the exception to the rule ..

I read this on CVG, not sure if it means the pirated copy or if the crack breaks the game regardless of having a legit copy or not:

UPDATE: Ubisoft has issued a statement to CVG: "You have probably seen rumors on the web that Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 have been cracked.

"Please know that this rumor is false and while a pirated version may seem to be complete at start up, any gamer who downloads and plays a cracked version will find that their version is not complete"

Aha -- They've done a 'Arkham Asylum' job. The software thief thinks its the complete game -- torrents it all over the shop for fellow thiefs to get, then players get to half-way through level 4 and can't get past a bit for love nor money.

Hohoho.

You mean the Arkham Asylum that was fixed about a week later? :p

Game like stalker prove that a a good idea with good gameplay even if a little buggy, made by a small company can be picked up and and sell well, and make them enough money to make a series hire enough devs/longer time to fix bugs and improve things and become a pretty large team able to make anything they want.

All with just a CD key.

Then ubisoft/ea/activision show that by making **** and sticking a beloved series title on it you can fail massively with the most over the top DRM possible.

then they just wait a week or two for it to be fixed.

Probably before the late EU release date ;)

That's if it's even true and this isn't just a desperate attempt to stop people from dling it.

To be honest, I don't see why most developers dont just use steam so the game is tied to the account and only needs an internet connection every so often rather than all the time.

Glad its been crcked though, I've got a clan member from a guild I'm in, lives in Ireland and his connection constantly drops so this drm would only get him to dowload a crack.

No they want to install it on them not play them simultaneously.

Just like you can buy the mats and just place them in which ever car you wish to drive that day.

If it's true it means Skidrow gets an official rating of

'F- FAIL. See me after school. Must try harder'.

I've done MASSIVELY better. I am not a thief at all. Which is kind of better than being a thief, and MUCH better than being a failed thief!!

One Halo to you old chap.

I think Ubisoft are clutching at straws and if it is not completely hacked now, it will be in a few days.

This is assuming the DRM does not involve streaming of micro pieces of game code.

You know that the cracking groups usually buy the games :p

They haven't stolen anything all they've done is pick a lock.

Really? 100% legit music/films/pictures/software collection?

Never copied a CD to the pc and then to mp3 player/ ipod?

Never played the radio loud enough for others to hear?

Never lent a dvd or CD to a friend?

Never had someone over to watch a DVD/blu ray together?

I doubt it :p
