Ubisoft's New DRM Cracked In Under 25-Hours

sentencing for things like this should be

found with a copied game, film etc etc 100 hours community service or £500 fine
found with multiple copies 250 hours com service with £2000 fine
found to be distributing copies 500 hours com service and £10000 fine + the companies of the discs your selling or sharing make you clean the staff toilets :)lolz

i think jail sentencing is harsh and i'm sure the prison space would be better for a murderer or rapist etc etc.

I think the fines above would make you think twice before doing it again

I haven't bought a game with DRM, ever - I just don't want the hassle and I don't trust them.

I haven't pirated them, either, I just skip them entirely. Why the hell don't they all just use steam? Buy it, download it very fast (9mb/s at uni!), then play it. Easy.

The simple fact is that anything that can be run by the computer can be decompiled by the computer. It might be difficult, but it can always be done. Once it's decompiled, it's just a case of changing it to remove the DRM and recompile it.

The sooner companies realise that they can't do it, the better... they're just wasting their own money, pushing their prices up (and reducing sales through it!) and killing their own profits.

The people who are going to pirate it, are going to whatever they do. We all know this, why on earth can't they catch on?

Oh, and I highly doubt companies are in the business of cracking their competitor's software.

You do realise steam is a form of DRM yea? As much as I like steam, they could go bust and shutdown their servers, leaving you with no playable games.

Do you realise that your proposed fine for distributing material is much less than what the MPAA etc are trying to enforce?

Software will and always will be cracked, the only way to diminish piracy on the pc is if people were required certain hardware requirements, wouldnt stop it completly but would help.

Then why not develop some sort of anti-piracy hardware chip then? This would be required to play the latest games. Either that or a type of chip chip is sold with the game that it requires.

I still think the best anti piracy was the things you used to get with Amiga games. Things like the Wheel disk in Zool where it asked you to match up 2 pictures then enter the number

I REALLY don't see what the fuss is about. Everyone has an internet connection, otherwise they couldn't play the games. So they can also download the crack.

So if everyone buys the original game and downloads the crack, everyone's happy and the only ones pirating the games are those who would have done it anyway.

I can't see the sense in buying the original and NOT getting the crack at the same time.

Just think for a few moments before spouting about "not seeing the fuss"

Do you think it is acceptable that if your internet connection goes down, you cannot play a single player game?

Yes i do but their fines are so ridiculous nobody can afford them and the court ends up reducing the amount anyway or they end up paying nothing because the court see's the fines as extortion.

much smaller fines much more often will make a better impact than a handful of larger fines once in a while.

you see my point

does the world end if you cant play assasins creed for 20 mins during an outage
just go read a book, or watch tv, or play a different game, or have a shower or go outside !

sounds like pirates using any old excuse to legitimise pirating games as always

If you pay for a game you should be allowed to use it when you want to use it and not be dependant on outside forces.

I wouldn't mind as much if the game occasionally needed to call in for verification but it shouldn't need a constant connection.

I would much prefer Starforce if it didn't thrash the DVD player to death.

you mean one without such **** DRM ?

you do know there is a slight problem with bending over and taking it.....it opens the doorway for others to start doing it too.

I can't believe some of you are actually happy they have been cracked it will come to a point where companies will give up on making pc games cause w*****s don't wanna pay for them and will just crack download them. You really can't win you moan about prices being high well what do you all expect if the company is losing out on 10's of thousands of sales it's gonna jack up prices to recoup the money it loses from pirated sales/downloads

TBH sick of you all moaning there is not enough games coming out for the pc.

IF YOU WANT MORE PC GAMES THEN STOP DOWNLOADING THEN CRACKING THEM YOU CHEAPSKATES

(This rant only applies to certain people in this thread)

did some of you/you all/certain people fall off their high horse and bump their head :p

er .. but if I buy a kite I can't use it unless it's windy. Therefore should I be allowed to steal a kite?

One I haven't stole anything or claimed it right to do so.

If I buy a kite wind is necessary for it's function, an internet connection is an unnecessary addition. Who would by a kite that needed an internet connection while using it.

You wouldn't buy a rechargeable drill that still needs a mains connection while in use.

I have no problem with games that require an internet connection that are online only.

the internet is not unnecessary

you guys speak like you have never used steam or the internet

its not even like we are talking about the internet being unreliable - its not is it ? my connection hasnt had a problem the year ive had it

id rather have this system over stupid install limits

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but you still have to be online to save your game with this new "cracked" DRM so it's not really cracked at all unless you fancy playing the game all the way through in a single sitting.
