Nvidia drivers fries your card

Working perfectly for me. Fan speed is as it should be temps are well within spec around 49C on idle with Vista Aero & Dreamscenes running. Gaming it rises to 71C & fanspeed goes up slightly but not much.

Storm in a teacup as always;) And the ATI fanboys will quickly go back to Nvidia if the latest reports of GTX480 being widely available & offering much more performance than 5870 are to be believed;)

I believe this hit my old faithfull 8800GTX, it was fine until 1 day after I installed exactly that driver set :(. Oh well, I got an ATi 5850 now, its performing just fine. Will I go back to NV.. sure, but it wont be a first generation GTX4xx series... far to power hungry. What im looking for next is 100% faster than a Ati59xx while using 65 watts of power :P and why not.. AMD and Intel managed to reduce cpu power, and then ramp up performace per watt pretty well since the older Athlon (and intel P4 in particualar).

Oh yeah, Switching from the 8800GTX to the Ati5850 knocked 40-100W off my PC's power usage depending on if I was idle or gaming. Very good power efficient graphics card :)

Storm in a teacup are you off your head. These drivers are causing the death of peoples cards. This is not some made up rumour its a fact and just because your card is fine means nothing to those that have no card after it fried because of these drivers. I wonder if it was driver related as to why my own 8800gtx stopped working just after a fresh install of windows and a new driver. Probably not but a hell of a lot of 8800's seem to be dying as of late.

It's Mainly to the older cards 8*** series and 9*** series, just keep an eye on the Fanspeed it should increase when playing high performance games

I honestly don't know why people would jump ship when they have a perfectly good card like a 5870 atm.

What latest reports are them, the ones made up in your confused little head.

my gpu fried a couple of days ago, fan stopped working with these drivers

gpu: Gigabyte GV-NX88X768H-RH (8800GTX)
game: C&C4 Public Beta

Can someone copy paste the detail from the link in the OP, it's blocked here. The peopel saying Nvidia could have done without this of late due to other things...what were those things as I must have missed them. Not trying to stir trouble, I'm just interested as a couple of my mates have 88XX series cards.

meh. i don't even bother installing new nvidia drivers when they come out any more. most of them **** up the display in windows so bad i don't even get a chance to test them out in games.

looks like i'll stay on the 186s for ever. :/

I am the same glad i never installed those.

I thought the point was the glitch shows that your fan speed is ramping up when in fact its not?

Therefore very difficult to monitor. The best you can do is check your temps and if getting high, go back to the old drivers.

However, what's the point? These drivers are worse performing than ones from months ago which don't bork your card so you may as well go back to old drivers anyway and be safe.

It's a bit like announcing your car accelerator might stick but don't worry, it's not an issue so long as you keep an eye on your speedo and be ready to brake if it does.......

Sauce? Latest reports say that there will be 5000 gtx480 cards available after launch. Compare this to the 3 million 5xxx series cards already sold.

And all latest performance reports show it to be 20% faster at best and in a lot of games, a lot less.

You do of course realise, that by very design it should be faster, and widely available, but then the 280gtx was widely available(emphasis on WAS), and it was noticeably faster than a 4870, and more people bought 4870's than 280gtx's, because of the value for money factor.

This is where the fanboys seem to get confused, the 480gtx, by design, should be 30-40% faster, but should also cost 40-50% more.

Its a failure if it doesn't end up that much faster.

People seem to forget, Nvidia had availabilty, and the performance lead and lost a lot of market share last generation. Better performance and availability is the bare minimum Nvidia HAVE to have, even then, they'll still lose market share due to costs.

Nvidia guys seem to think if its faster somehow Nvidia will win , something or other.

Official Nvidia PR response:
We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime.

If this is causing cards to die then it is a massive ****storm for Nvidia

Yeah whatever take the mick all you want but the facts are that this only affects a tiny minority of Nvidia cards with certain motherboard/GPU combinations & even then its been narrowed down to happening when the PC comes out of sleep mode the auto fan speed does not always work with these specific hardware combos. Probably not even 0.000001% of cards are affected if that ;)

OCUK users do not represent a large % of Nvidia users globally & the vast majority of Nvidia cards are working perfectly with these drivers;)
