WD Black Raid 0 seem slow.

I recently put a couple of WD Black 750GB drives in my machine to replace a single drive.

The raid was taken care of by the motherboard controller (Gigabyte board with an Inter Quad 9450 in it).

After putting the drives in, the machine, after powering on, sits for quite a time at the Gigabyte motherboard logo screen, much longer than when there was a single drive. After this screen goes, the raid controller screen comes up and ticks through quickly and then the machine boots Win7 quickly.

The machine does not seem much faster and the Windows index score is still at 5.4 even after a clean Win7 Ultimate reinstall.

I will try benchmarking the drives when i get home if someone can give me an idea of the best software to do so with.

Cheers

Which controller are the WD blacks on, the Intel ICHxR or Gigabyte (jmicron)?

Just dug out the manual and it is a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 board with an ICH9R SATA II controller.

Anyone go an idea what sort of throughput I should be looking for out of these.

Crystal Disk Mark 2.2 gave (MB/s);
Seq : 148 read, 130.7 write
512k: 45 read, 130.4 write
4k: 0.7 read, 2.6 write

Thanks GeezerButler.

So the speed they are getting seems about right then.

Just seems slow booting up, especially getting off the Gigabyte boot screen.

Hey RimBlock,

I wouldn't worry about boot times, RAID configurations usually take longer to boot than a single primary disk, its just one of the trade-offs when using RAID.

As for your speeds in srystal mark - they look fine.
