Opinions on the new Seat Ibiza SC?

I'd have either the Focus, Golf, Ibiza, or the Astra (the new one is supposed to be quite good).

I'd give them a test drive and see which you like best.

From that list I'd take the Golf. Seat as the VAG groups "sporty" brand will likely be hard riding and noisy on the motorway compared to the bigger Golf. I've not been in the Sport, but the FR models of every Seat I've been in break my spine if you go near a pothole.

No substitute for trying it yourself mind.

FR is a firm ride, yes. But the Sport is supposed to be a lot softer.

Pretty much. I find my FR very firm on the motorway, but the seats are comfortable and keep the bumps from being irritating.

I did test the 2.0 Petrol Sport when I was buying and that's a lot softer overall, nowhere near what the FR is.

So yes, Seat "Sport" models are nothing but additional trim, there's nothing really sporty about them at all compared to the rest of the range. They tend to be one of the better trims though, certainly a nice place to be if you can deal with the plastic interior.

Overall, the SE provides the most sensible choice of specification. The Sport specification adds sports suspension, sports seats, larger 16-inch alloy wheels with low profile tyres and leather trim for the gear knob and steering wheel.

The old Ibiza FR has a terrible ride, so I got the vRS as it handles 98% as well while being comfortable when I'm not driving like my pants are on fire. Road noise intrusion is a lot lower on the Skoda as well.

I detest the Leon Mk2 FR TDI - something about the suspension setup makes me nauseous especially on fast A roads and motorways. The new Ibiza FR TSI is much better damped than the old car but still very stiff.

The ibiza is simply not an option for 20,000miles a year, sports suspension is not soft and the ride comfort would be nothing compared to a golf/new astra.

Seat Sport suspension is NOT stiff. Go drive an FR or Cupra if you want handling over comfort.

And yes, the FR TDI is quite harsh when you're in the back (although this varies from person to person). I don't sit there though. ;)

Based on that list, it would be one of my suggestions.

Lets face it, that list is drab and I wouldn't want to do 20K a year in any of them.

I wouldn't imagine the sport suspension is that bad, after all theres the FR, Cupra and Bocanegra models above it.

I have to say I'm in two minds with the Bocanegra I've had for the last two weeks. From some angels I think it looks really good, yet from others I don't think the styling angels work.

Drive wise it feels a bit light to me, and not as planted as I think it should.

Its a small city car, the equivalent Seat to the astra/golf/focus is the leon, really would not be my choice for the time OP will be spending on motorways.

If it's for motorway use, I wouldnt want an Ibiza - they're in the same size class as the Corsa/Fiesta not the Astra/Focus.

Not sure why you'd have a Zetec over a Titanium, but the Titanium Focus would be my choice - the 1.6 TDCi is fine, nothing exciting but functional

It's a fixed company car list. Given that they're all around 15-16k RRP I the Focus Titanium would cost too much.

What are the Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Toyota and Mazda equivalents?
I presume nothing bigger than a Golf?

The golf is probably the best car on the list for motorway travel.
It's more refined than the focus, but I'm not sure about the spec.

I'd definately look at the Auris and Mazda 3 aswell, the new Mazda is a very impressive car and the kit levels are very good. The Auris whilst not the last word in driving dynamics, is a pretty decent car to own, its nice inside better than a Focus.

My choice would be:

Mazda 3 (engine dependant)
Vx Astra ( VX are really starting to improve)
Focus
Auris
Golf.

The Golf is bottom of the list as it really poorly specced and that 1.6 is a shocker (or used to be). If it was a GT then i'd jump for the Golf out of the list, im surprised there arent any Skoda Octavia's on the list?

Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.6 TDCi
Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCi
Seat Ibiza SC 1.6 TDI CR 105PS Sport
Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.7 CTDi
Vauxhall Astra (new model) SE 1.7 CTDi
VW Polo SE 1.6 TDi
VW Golf S 1.6 TDi

Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Toyota and Mazda equivalents as well. Not very exciting. :D

For high mileage, take the Golf its the most refined.
