Just received a strange call...

I would have made out that I was following their instructions then when they start trying to get me details suddenly say that I don't have a computer.

My uncle had a call last week from someone saying they were from Visa and needed to confirm his card number. The scary thing is that some people fall for it

Plus this computer is scanned weekly and the only sites my parents ever go on are the likes of eBay.

.

Presuming you have a father who is a man and able to use the internet you can bet the moment your mum goes out he is checking out other sites. Sorry to put that thought in your mind!;)

so that wasn't chrwing gum on the bottom of the table?

I got a similar call from a woman with a heavy accent a few weeks ago, it didn't help that I was half asleep. :p

Woman: We have recieved information that blah blah bleh
Me: Pardon?
Woman: We have recieved information that your computer is running slow
Me: Eh? what?... No... Bye!...

Hopefully she felt nicely insulted... :p

Well atleast there evolving. Why do I never get the pleasure of reciving a call like this.

I'd like to hook a sound box up to the phone....The arnie one or something...I'd have great fun!!!

A few of my clients have had phone calls from a similar sounding operation. I wonder how many people have fallen for this.

This kind of call seems to be making the rounds at the moment. Some guy rang my old mobile earlier while I was out, so my mum picked it up. When she answered, the guy was apparently going on about how my PC was severely infected with all kinds of viruses and that I needed their "specialised" software or something to remove them. Fortunately my mum's not so technologically naive that she'd give out any details or anything, and just hung up after a minute or so.

One of my mates also experienced something similar last Thursday.

I had one of these calls while I was in the middle of reformatting my PC I laughed at them told them to stick their call and hung up they phoned back threatening to have me arrested for swearing at them even though expletives were never exchanged, I told them good luck with that because a I didn't swear & b so far as I know swearing at someone down the phone is not a criminal offence and proceeded to tell them I was phoning the police myself to report them for harrasing me... they hung up!

We had a call to the office today telling us that there were problems with our broadband.
I thought it was strange given that we're not on a broadband conenction and our internet access was fine... :D
Wish I'd went along with the call now though, I'd like to know where they go with it.

My parents received a call like this a couple of weeks ago, they were asking for me but I wasn't in.

I'd like to know how they work it, I mean, short of actually telling you to go online to download a "fix" or blatantly asking for bank details, etc. I can't see what they could do?

Although saying that, from the sounds of the ultra vague virus call, they probably do manipulate quite a few people. Better warn the parents...

I spoke to someone else who had exactly this call the other day...

very targeted malware .. (I guess they harvested the contact details from the pc)

The person let them remote access his PC, they appeard to try and clean the malware, but said he had to upgrade to the latest version of their software was required at a cost of £170(ish) pounds.. and could they have his card details... - at which point he realised something odd was going on
