I've traded in for a Civic Type R

Since we're onto AC discussion, it's a PITA to do town driving with the AC on, once you're over 30mph though, I can't tell if it's on or off. Besides the gloriously cold air going in my eyes :D

You realise the ST engine is setup specifically to make noise inside the cabin? :)

I do like driving with the windows down though, you get a nice dose of the recirc :D

I spend the summer with the windows down. Hear the glorious 5 pot :D

I have the windows down as often as possible, much prefer it over the A/C. I know that always splits the forum 50/50 though, some people keep their windows up and have the A/C on whether its tropical out or not.

It was a bit tongue in cheek - Honda owners tend to be a bit obsessive, but it seems you might be one of the sane ones? :)

To be fair, I don't think there are very many 'obsessive' Honda owners here at all.

They're just better than Fords.:p

No the car wont let you VTEC from cold and will only let you do so when it deems it safe to do so.

Taking extra measures off your own back in the sake of mechanical sympathy is not linked to the cars own safety measures. It's just good practice. It's not like it locks the doors and ignition before it's cooled down after a drive now is it? :D

You must feel the engine sapped of power when you turn it on mind. Only car I have noticed the A/C seems to have no impact was a 6 Cylinder BMW. I can feel the power drop in the ST.
I'd say there is a difference sure, but it's not significant enough to outweigh the benefits of having A/C. Let's not forget A/C does more than just chuck cold air in your face, it dehumidifies, and therefore demists a hell of a lot quicker than just the heaters alone manage. As for the power dip, you don't have to turn it on :)

Given the choice though when I'm stuck motionless in traffic in the summer with the air outside the car just as bad as inside I don't think I would cope without A/C. :(

Air con is too heavy, weight saving means SPEEEEDS.

Windows down to hear VTEC always. Nearly got frostbite the last few weeks though :(:D

It's hard to tell in the K20 engined cars because they only display water temp. Once the water temp is at the normal position another mile is advised before VTECing it I'd say. The car will allow it sooner but that's probably Honda reducing the annoyance factor of such a restriction. It's not a rev limit either, it just doesn't change cam so you can still rev it higher than you need to when cold.

The odd thing is I would get to work for 9am, leave at 5pm and the car would still be somewhat warm. The water temp gauge gets to one position and sits there regardless on the EP3 I found unless it gets a bit warmer outside.

I can only speak for the B16B but I used to have Defi guages for water and oil. Water would be up to temp within 2-3 mins but oil used to take 9-11 mins, so it's going to take a bit longer than a mile.

£8500 does seem a little steep for an 04 plate, but as shown it is bang on book price from a dealer. I got my 04 plate last April with 52k on the clocks and only paid £5800, and that is also an A/C model  However that was private and from a friend of my brothers :)

You sure the 50k is the big one? My Service book states I'm on the 12500 mile service intervals and the 75k service is the big one. This was also backed up when I was in Honda today getting prices for servicing mine - 62.5k service is £169 (the standard service that mine is due for) and the 75k service was almost £500 (valve clearences, gearbox oil ect) That was from Springfield Honda in Newcastle.

I had that done at ~50k. It depends on age as well as milage and whichever is sooner but I thought 50k and 75k were about the same level of service. I didn't bother with the main dealer and used Unit 8 as they are very close to me but followed Honda specs which they have listed on the CTRO forum:

Yeah I edited my post after checking my book again, 50k is also a relatively big one, though the 75k one on my schedule is my 'big' one.

The symposer is designed to make noise in the cabin yes...

I dont think anyone is going suggest that opening the window will not only remove that sound but also mean you cant hear the exhaust better?
